UPP Commits To Increasing Youth Participation In Governance At All Levels
The United Progressive Party (UPP) is of the strong view that pursuing greater youth participation at all levels of Government is key to effective national development. Having rolled out one of the youngest political slates in the history of Antigua and Barbuda, the Party will give youth voices a platform.
The UPP is proud to announce that we will immediately move to increase youth representation at all levels of government, targeting at least:
– 25% in the Senate
– 25% across All Boards
– 10% of Board Chairs or Vice Chairs
– 25% on all major committees
The UPP also commits to fostering deeper cooperation with existing youth bodies.
The UPP Government will meet with the National Youth Council at least once per quarter to account for our performance, capture their concerns and give consideration to their recommendations.
The UPP Government will also ensure that the National Youth Parliament is empowered to make a greater contribution to national development. We will give consideration to recommendations and bills presented by the National Youth Parliament.
The UPP Political Leader, Harold Lovell says “The UPP will pursue a policy of affirmative action for youth. All areas of government decision
making will have youth representation.” He further comments, “The theme of this year’s International Youth Day is ‘Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages’. The UPP is proud to deliver concrete plans to ensure that all generations, including the youth, are represented at the decision making table.”
“Young people continue to play a key role in creating sustainable change in our country. Our young people remain a critical link in ensuring that our nation provides opportunities for collaboration among all generations to ensure that any differences in our views are used as a way to unite us and not divide us,” said Hon. Jamale Pringle, the youngest ever Leader of the Opposition in Antigua and Barbuda.

A man with vision for the people not a vision for himself.
The Gaston Browne administration has already implemented that vision. Keep dreaming Mr. Lovell. Senator the Hon. Shenella Mary Shadida Govia is the youngest senator ever. And she works right in the Prime Minister’s Office. Then you have Senator the Hon. Knacyntar Nedd another young woman. and by the way Minister Maria Bird Browne is the youngest Minister ever chosen to our Parliament. You guys are dreamers. We are doers.
Brilliant idea! Tap into the energy and the creativity of youth. Great move, Captain.
Bold move UPP! Real youth empowerment. Full time!
ABLP talks a lot but has no real belief in youth empowerment. Just the other day the National Youth Council nominated their Youth delegate to the international convention in Rwanda. ALP said to hell with them, and sent their own non-delegate (who can’t even vote) on a joyride.
And look at the state ALP has the Boys Training school in.
And let’s remember the hundreds of applications to the PM Business Loan Programme, only the chosen few get through…
Politics in everything, trying to train our youth to be political ass kissers just to get access to government initiatives their tax dollars paid for.
Time to vote these bastards out! #RedDead
Declaration by Baldwin “ASHE LIED” Spencer:
“The UPP as a party and as a government HAS FALLEN from time to time. We have made some mistakes. I clearly recall that WE ERRED IN THE MANNER IN WHICH THE VOLUNTARY SEPARATION POLICY FOR THE PUBLIC SERVICE WAS IMPLEMENTED SOME YEARS AGO. WE LOST SOME OF OUR BEST TEACHERS, NURSES, MANAGERS, POLICE, FIREFIGHTERS, AGRICULTURAL EXPERTS & A RANGE OF OTHER PROFESSIONALS FROM THE PUBLIC SECTOR. We have not always taken the time to fully explain all our policies and programs to the people so that they know HOW THESE MEASURE IMPACT THEIR LIVES. So brothers and sisters WE HAVE STUMBLED.”
Thank you for sharing Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
From the above, you see that the UPP is a humble party.
Unlike Gaston who is arrogant and feels that he is never wrong and who blames everyone else besides himself.
Thank you, UPP. Thank you
The young people do not feel that traditional politics is for them. They express themself differently and like their own way of doing things. The youth are the future we have to give them a seat at the table. The UPP is on the right track.
@hmmmmmm
Voluntary separation was a way to get some persons out of the system who didn’t want to be there anymore it was not all positive nor negative.
nope! Not ACCORDING TO BALDWIN “ASHE LIED” SPENCER
“I clearly recall that WE ERRED IN THE MANNER IN WHICH THE VOLUNTARY SEPARATION POLICY FOR THE PUBLIC SERVICE WAS IMPLEMENTED SOME YEARS AGO. WE LOST SOME OF OUR BEST TEACHERS…….”
Let the record reflect his official statement Your Honour!
Whatever copycat! Labour Party government is already doing this King Lyadd Lovell Limpy Joe.

HUNDREDS OF YOUTH COULDN’T GET JOBS UNDER LOVELL/UPP because he CONTRACTED THE ECONOMY and cozy up to the IMF.
The youth still can’t get jobs under ABLP. Where are the jobs coming from Jolly Beach, Willoughby Bay, Best Western, YIDA, Western Imperial?
The boys on the block are vex with Gaston because they can’t get any jobs since Gaston can’t account for the 2 billion dollars that he got from the CIP and he giving competition to small contractors.
WICKED GREEDY VINDICTIVE GASTON BROWNE
Hmmmmmmm so what is Gaston’s reason for not providing jobs for young people after getting $2 billion from the sale of our passports. Ask Gaston and his band of self-enrichers whey de money gorn?
All age groups should definitely have their voices heard and should try to make a contribution, but my advice to the youth is to research, consult, and ask for advice from multiple sources before being too adamant about a particular position. Sometimes younger persons believe they know more than
they actually do about certain topics. Or, they discount older opinions as being out of touch when in fact those are based on much more experience i.e. been there tried that already… So, they should be prepared to listen and discuss and learn a bit as understudies before being given too much control. On the other hand, they can offer unique perspectives from the upcoming generation and their energy can be useful for solving many problems rapidly once they are running in the right informed direction. At least its only 25% or less for now…
