UPP claims credit for Government’s decision to stage complete voter re-registration exercise

Real News: The United Progressive Party (UPP) is pleased that the Gaston Browne Administration bowed to pressure and has decided to have a complete re-registration of voters.

There had been talk that, instead of a complete re-registration, the Administration was contemplating a renewal of the cards, most of which expire in March this year.

Public Relations Officer Damani Tabor says the Opposition party wants to ensure that the voters list is as clean as possible, given the statements made last year by PM Browne, who boasted that voters had been transferred from his constituency to help other Antigua
Labour Party candidates in the January 18, 2023, General Election.

And while a precise date for the process has not yet been decided, Tabor says this should be done soon, since the exercise is a massive undertaking.

He says the Government needs to ensure that it has the relevant manpower and financial resources to ensure the initiative is completed in a smooth manner and within a reasonable timeframe.
