UPP Chairperson D. Gisele Isaac Raises Concerns Over Accommodation and Transportation for SIDS4 Conference Delegates

United Progressive Party (UPP) Chairperson D. Gisele Isaac expressed strong reservations about the arrangements for the upcoming SIDS4 conference in Antigua, scheduled for May.

Isaac’s concerns come in the context of Antigua’s initial plan to house delegates on a cruise ship, which was deemed too expensive.

As a result, last week, Prime Minister Gaston Browne made a call for residents with available accommodations to come forward and register with the Ministry.

Isaac stated, “The cost is prohibitive; that’s what they said last week.” She highlighted significant issues regarding accommodation and transportation for conference delegates, raising questions about accountability and planning.

Isaac emphasized the challenges faced by delegates, particularly regarding accommodation availability.

She criticized the timing of the announcement, noting, “You might have to put up some people, and the taxi drivers will come and pick you up.”

Isaac pointed out that planning for such events, including destination weddings, requires considerable advance preparation.

She added, “People plan in advance; people are going to have a destination wedding.”

Moreover, Isaac criticized the lack of clarity on transportation arrangements for conference attendees.

She highlighted the congestion and difficulties in commuting, especially during peak hours. Isaac questioned the accountability of authorities responsible for managing these logistical aspects, stating, “Who takes responsibility for this nonsense with the accommodation, this nonsense with the transportation?”

Isaac also referenced past incidents, such as challenges faced during the attempted hosting of Carifesta, expressing concern about potential embarrassment on the international stage due to inadequate conference planning.

She remarked, “I’m so hoping that we’re not terribly embarrassed in the eyes of the world by putting on a shoddy conference.”

The UPP Chairperson called for greater accountability and urged authorities to address these concerns promptly.

She emphasized the need for transparent and efficient planning to ensure the success of the SIDS4 conference and the comfort of all participants.

  1. Now that’s not too much to ask now “Mr. Loudmouth Gatson Browne.”
You talk a good talk, but this is where the rubber meets the road.
Time to shut up and do your job for the better good of our island, so we are not
    embarrassed for all to see.

I see you rushing to fix the roads and asking residents to open up their homes
to accommodate attendees, but I hope you are not too late with your PPP (piss poor planning).

Regardless of how much I know you are not the right man to lead Antigua, I sure hope you
step up to the plate and get this done, because this was never about you, it’s was always about the wellbeing of all Antiguans, which you have fail to recognize so far in your three Tems.

Keep pushing this joker UPP, because if you don’t, this selfish man will run this country in
so much debt, it will take a 100 years for us to get out of, just like how they have done to Haiti.

We have seen what corruption can do to a nation, let’s not make that futile mistake,

  2. Well, well! Some people get themselves involved in certain discussions in order to stay relevant, (just like I’m doing at this time). Now, what turns on that?

Just like during the tenure of the former administration asking citizens to prepare their homes for the overflow of visitors they were to expect and many didn’t see one guest.

On the contrary, in this case, all those who had constructed additional space back then, can now apply to the ministry to list their property and its availability to host the delegates of the SIDS4 conference.
There might be a few hiccups but we will be fine.

Taxi drivers will also benefit from it once they registerwith the relevant authority.
The rush hour will be sorted by the police traffic department. Notwithstanding the possibility that local drivers might be inconvenienced in their commute for a few days, it will all work out in the end.

The said chairperson should be aware that she too can offer herself as a volunteer to share ideas, as this is a national effort.
    Let’s keep hope alive.

  3. The same thing you morons says about the Five islands university and every goddam things about the uplifting Dadli. Sadly, the same country you naysayers wants to govern. Goodness.. Gracious… be positive sometimes.

    • @ Colombo

You better try solving some of the ”cases” that police need help with.
All the murders and thefts and abuses. You can also help to solve the filthy state of the country, the poor health care system, the craters in the roads (pot holes), the mole and upkeep in all government buildings……..would you like me to go on?
With your ”detective” skills you should be able to sort them out!
