United Progressive Party (UPP) caretaker for St John’s Rural North, Pearl Quinn-Williams, dismissed Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s threat of legal action over her protest placard, asserting it lacked merit. CLICK HERE TO JOIN OUR WHATS APP GROUP
While Browne accused her of defaming his character, Quinn-Williams clarified that her placard criticized the ruling Antigua Barbuda Labour Party administration rather than personally targeting the Prime Minister.
Browne has a history of using legal means to counter opposition claims, previously emphasizing such actions during the 2023 election campaign.

“Browne has a history of using legal means to counter opposition claims, previously emphasizing such actions during the 2023 election campaign.”
Do you know what’s weird about the above statement? If those who uttered claims against PM Browne are telling the truth, then there is nothing to fear. However, the fact that PM Browne uses LEGAL MEANS suggests that some law was broken by opposition forces. In other words, there can be no legal redress for PM Browne if defamation did not occur. The fact that PM Browne is successful in using LEGAL MEANS clearly points to defamation.
Free speech comes with responsibility: you have the right to say whatever you want, provided that in exercising your right you do not infringe upon the rights of others. Someone tricked you people into “talk as you like, talk hard, and call dem name.” It’s a trick; don’t fall for it.
@ Carter
Are you a ploy? Obviously you are.
Do not worry yourself, your Honourable Pearl Quinn-Williams. All Gaston Browne knows is how to pursue Antiguans in Litigious matters.
I can imagine the joy and glee in his soul when an Antiguan holds him accountable for his lack of making the country an “Economic Powerhouse” … oh wait … 😁
I can still recall when Browne first came into prominence, one of the first things that he wanted to curtail was the songs and lyrics from our Calypsonian and Soca singers.
WE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN GASSSSSTON ‘LITIGATION’ BROWNE 🥸SENSITIVE SO TIL …
@ Brixtonian: It appears that Pearl is beginning to deficate in her boots…. She seems to be led astray by some of the non skull individuals that UPP has. Unfortunately, Pearl may have to learn the hard way & understand that when she lie with dogs she needs to avoid catching their fleas.
@ Bluddy Bloke, I’m sure as hell you meant to say “defecate”, didn’t you?
You Gastonites are a joy to behold 😁
@Carter, do you know what what was allegedly said? Or Posted?? Do you even stop to think Gaston might be trying to bully people he feels don’t have money to go toe-to-toe with him??
I don’t hear him threatening to sue money people.
@Zackie…. What are you trying to say, that Asot Michael has no money? PM Browne has threatened to and has sued him.
But on a serious note, if a person is confident in the truth of their statements, there is no need to fear a lawsuit for defamation. The only way they would fear being dragged through the courts is if their statements qualify as defamatory.
In politics, as in life, if you are going to accuse someone of something, you must be prepared to prove it. You cannot then hide behind the shield that you do not have the money to prove it in court. That’s like buying a car and then say you can’t afford gasoline. It is part of the cost that MUST be factored into the equation. Therefore, desist from making statements that you are not prepared to prove, if and when called upon to do so. The law operates on the principle of “he who asserts must prove.”
@Carter
She will win her case. There was no defamation against Gaston brown personally on the poster. You can see it on Observer News paper. When she wins her case, she should get damages and legal costs. Gaston is just trying to shut up the opposition. Gaston lawyer should talk some sense in him. As far as her legal fees go, UPP has lawyers on their team and they can always ask their supporters to make a contribution.
Any prime minister worth his salt should stand head and shoulder above the rest. Politics is a rough game and not for the thin skinned. A prime minister of sturdy character would not threaten to resort to litigation as PM Browne has done: this seems to be his default mode when he is offended and displays a lack of fortitude. There has never been in the political history of any country where their prime minister has so often resorted to the courts to seek redress for alledged defamation or slur. This is kids stuff, cry baby tantrum and throwing his toys out of the window because he thinks he has been defamed. Mr Prime Minister, if you cannot stand the heat get to hell out of the kitchen. Show some fibre. Oh, sorry you are sadly lacking in that virtue also. How about shrugging your shoulder and giving a wry smile at the lady? That’s the hallmark of a real man, but then are you?
Well highlighted @ oversee, our Prime Minister has turned politicking into a joke.
Why did Gaston Browne go into politics if he was such a sensitive soul? He must have known that the cut and thrust of political conversations and debate would be brutal.
However, I do understand that defamation has to be tackled, but Gaston Browne’s tried and trusted tactic is to go after Antiguans who rarely has the monetary means and wherewithal to take him on.
He takes on the “low” hanging fruit, where win or lose wouldn’t really effect him personally; however, he doesn’t take on the big players or countries (like the US).
Seems like Gaston hates his own citizens. So sad @ oversee.
SO YOU CANT TALK NOW .
ONLY HIS PEOPLE ON HIS RADIO STATION AND TANNY CAN SAT AS THEY LIKE.

What is he going to sue for? Did the poster mention his name in any way?If in fact, the poster mentioned THE ADMINISTRATION.He is not the ADMINISTRATION.So what the hell is he threatening to sue about.Me a go sueeee yeee.Mr.Sue Man.IS THERE FREEDOM OF SPEECHES IN ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA? I HAVE LISTENED TO GASTON BROWNE ON A RADIO STATION NAMED TO ME AS RUM SHOP RADIO.HE LAMBASTED OTHERS AND DESTROYED THEIR CHARACTERS AND NO ONE THREATENED TO SUE HIM.HE HAS THAT RIGHT TO SPEAK ILL OF ALL OTHERS.NO ONE COULD SPEAK ILL OF HIM.
This man is unfit for the office of PM. What a petty, narcissistic joke! No leader in any part of the world anywhere is beyond criticism, none. I’ve heard people call Barack Obama the anti-christ and he is a damn sight more qualified for leadership than this idiot DAWG we have here. Never heard of Obama suing anyone.
Any minion, or GASSY under some porous pseudonym, can defend this childs play, but it’s the nature of the beast who admitted to breaking the law to get reelected. A mistake of colossal proportions that the country is already paying for.
Let’s hear the asanine response from @ Carter.
