Anthony Smith, the incumbent MP, received the highest votes at 559.

The poll emphasized candidate qualifications, prompted by the ABLP’s endorsement of Newton despite not winning 50% in the primary.

The ABLP reversed its decision post-poll, planning a run-off primary.

Newton got 157 votes, Burton 142, and Arry Simon 60 in the primary, requiring a run-off between top contenders per party rules. However, the Chairman named Newton as caretaker, causing objections from Burton.

Rumors suggest a Newton-Burton run-off in the upcoming ABLP executive election, supported by unofficial remarks from Prime Minister Gaston Browne favoring Newton. Newton reportedly declined a run-off, asserting that a win is a win regardless of the process.

  1. Regis Burton was clearly outdone by a system that he signed on to and accepted. There is much talk around as to whether Burton did in fact come in second place as the final results portrayed. Speaking to some very knowledgeable people in All Saints West, they were of the view that many votes that were cast were accounted for and didn’t even appear in the spoilt ballot bin The Primary was obviously skewed to reflect the eventual outcome that was had according to many.

    • Why am I not surprised at what “the very knowledgeable people in All Saints West” are saying?.

It is obvious to me that ‘persons in the party’ wanted Regis to win, but God has his plans (lol).

The Labour Party have been exposed again. When will Antigua people see? Next election?

  2. No Mr. Newton. A win is not a win. The only valid win is one that complies with the rules. You cannot be the candidate without having garnered over 50% of the total vote. Those are the rules that were set. You cannot change the rules to suit yourself halfway though the process. That is called cheating. Please don’t be a cheater.

    • Exactly!!! Lamin sounds like a rare end saying that. No Sir, there are rules, guidelines and processes. A win is not a simple win if it’s not at least at 50%.

  3. Young Burton will soon learn the machinery behind that red team. He will either move on or shut up, either way, he will learn a harsh lesson that naivety brings in a den of thieves. Young Burton, will you buckle under the pressure to hush up and sit down? Prayers for your soul. Don’t sell it.

  4. AGAINNNNN REGIS …. please leave Gaston Brown party your better than this

You have a beautiful heart and principles that you will have to compromise

Leave the trash where it is LAMIN HAS NOTHING TO OFFER HE HAS NOTHING NOW GASTON DUST HIM OFF AND MADE GIM SOMEBODY

THIS IS HIS LAST STRAW AT BEING SOMEBODY see how Gaston says since he has been afliated he can now articulate better his vocabulary has immensely improved so he OWES GASTON he even got educated under Gaston authority

You were schooled in NYC by your MOTHER
SO PLEASE LEAVE THE RED TRASH BIN ALONE

HE WILL USING HIS AUTHORITY TO GET WOMEN HE COULDNT GET OTHERWISE

  5. Shame on you Lamin to utter such a statement. Is it because the result of the primary was in your favour? On the Talking Point show you usually portrait that you an honest person & you are a man of integrity. Then if that is so, why are you not agreeing that a run off should be done since three candidates signed to the 50 + 1 agreement ? Should I refer to you as a hypocrite
or a fox in sheep’s clothing????

In addition, with your personal development (much kudos) and the media resources & personel in high offices you had on your side supporting you, the result should show a major difference between you & your opponents.

  6. Are these the same ALP people on point fm who were criticizing the UPP MP’s for signing a letter of support for MP Lewis to become leader of the party?
Did they go behind Burton’s back and declare Newton the winner of the primary even though he didn’t garner 50 % of the votes; and why is Newton so willing to disregard the rules he signed onto? Is Newton already demonstrating to the constituents his lack of integrity? Is this the type of character the people of All Saints West wants as their representative? Shocking…Not!

  7. This”personal development” that he and Gaston is boasting about is yet to be tested by Veronica “3 questions” Benjamin, who had him sweating and huffing and puffing last time. I am sure there will a similar result when she confronts him again.

  8. If Newton refuses to participate in the “run off” process, as is being bandied about, that is his right as an individual!
However, it is my own personal opinion, that he should be completely disqualified, disallowed, deleted, as a potential candidate, and the position be given to Burton.
The ABLP created a set of rules to which all potential candidates agreed, IN WRITING (contract). I challenge the labour party to show that it can follow rules and regulations! Not just when it suits a particular agenda, but most especially when it doesn’t!
Gaston, don’t make the same mistake that was made in St. Peter! I don’t know if you will have space for all these ‘creatures to bite you in your backside’!
To be ‘fore warned is to be ‘fore armed!
Remember Lennox say that “you’re your own worst enemy”!
    You better take heed!
