University of the West Indies Bestows Doctor of Letters Degree upon ‘King Short Shirt’

Sir Leroy McLean, renowned as ‘King Short Shirt’ Emmanuel, was granted an esteemed Doctor of Letters honor by the University of the West Indies, Five Islands.

The distinguished ceremony unfolded during the University’s commencement event this past Saturday, where Sir McLean graciously accepted the honor, bedecked in the traditional regalia of red graduation gown, blue stole, and black cap.

In his heartfelt acceptance speech, Sir McLean conveyed his profound gratitude for the privilege of embodying Antigua and Barbuda’s culture for over six decades.

He extended his appreciation to his family, collaborators, devoted fans, and notable figures including Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Ambassador Lionel ‘Max’ Hurst, and Ms. Patricia Tully.

The University of the West Indies, Five Islands, has unveiled plans to bestow 14 honorary degrees to luminaries from the entertainment sector across its four landed campuses, acknowledging their exceptional contributions to society and their respective communities.

Thank God got our visionary leader the honorable Gaston Alphonso Browne who fought not only against the opposition in his own country but also those forces abroad that wanted to deny us this landed campus, which we can now see has more then brought its fruits to this nation and has recognize the works over the years of some of its most outstanding citizens like Sir McLean Emanuel aka King Short Shirt, Sir Richie Richardson and others. Where there is no vision the people perish. Now let’s hope our honors committee may see it fit to bestow on him by highest order of the land

  6. Why is it the UPP and their followers cannot put politics aside and wish Sir Doctor McLean Emanuel, aka Shot Short, well. All the years when he sang they use to take his songs as a criticism of the ALP government and praise him, but since he publicly chose to back the Gaston Browne led government they despise him and made him their public enemy. All because of politics. As if a man doesn’t have to right to back which party he wants to. They did the same thing with Smarty Jr. You guys are vindictive and like to divide the nation. Who is not with with you is against you. That is why when the UPP was in power they victimized many Labour Party supporters.
