Unity Amidst Storm – The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party Stands Firm

In politics, where allegiances can shift like the wind and loyalties are often questioned, the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) has emerged as a beacon of unity amidst the storm.

The recent attempt by the United Progressive Party (UPP) to sow discord within the ranks of ABLP has only strengthened the party’s resolve and showcased the unbreakable bond among its members.

The drama unfolded on July 9, 2024, when an article circulated, stirring emotions and causing a frenzy among locals, particularly those who had switched allegiances from ABLP to UPP.

The air was thick with tension, as whispers of division spread like wildfire. However, the ABLP’s steadfast unity shone through, quelling the unrest and demonstrating their indomitable spirit.

In a live recording of the popular show Talking Point on Pointe FM, hosted by Winston Williams, Donna Chaia, and Lamin Newton, the truth was laid bare.

Newton, with a tone that suggested more desperation than confidence, tried to assert, “There’s no disunity in the Labour Party, let me make that clear. You have two really, really formidable candidates who are going up for the position of becoming the candidate for the Labour Party at the next general elections, and the people of All Saints West will decide.”

Newton’s attempt to downplay the situation was met with mixed reactions. Some found his words unconvincing, feeling that his defence lacked the genuine passion needed to reassure the party faithful.

However, some saw it as a notable moment of solidarity between key figures within the party. Newton’s acknowledgment of the party’s strength in having two formidable candidates demonstrated a commitment to unity and a willingness to work together for the greater good of the ABLP.

In the comment section, Regis Burton wrote, “100% agree Comrade Lamin. Don’t let [the] opposition get in between our Party business. There is unity in Labour,” his words reinforcing the message of unity and determination to stay focused on their shared goals.

In an interesting yet not surprising twist, Donna Chaia brought to light several issues faced at St. Phillip’s Primary. Known for her vocal and often ravenous approach whenever the ABLP faced internal issues, Chaia’s sudden fervour raised eyebrows.

Many questioned her intentions, speculating whether her outspokenness was driven by genuine concern or ulterior motives. Some even labelled her actions as hypocritical, noting her previous criticisms of Burton’s expressions of love for the party he was born into. Now, with her fellow UPP brethren under scrutiny, Chaia’s stance seemed contradictory at best.

Despite the attempts to create turmoil, the ABLP’s commitment to unity remained unwavering. The responses from both Burton and Newton were not just words but a testament to their loyalty and resolve.

As observers, we recognize that every individual, including these formidable candidates, has their strengths and weaknesses. In this political theatre, we are merely the voice of the people, watching the news unfold and reporting the truth. ‘

The ABLP has shown that unity is not just a word but a powerful force that can withstand any challenge. The attempts to divide have only made them stronger, and the people of Antigua and Barbuda can rest assured that their party stands united, ready to face the future together.

  1. Did Dave Gay erm Ray write this twaddle?
Why did this ALP tool felt it was necessary?
Who’s quaking in their boots? 🤣😂🤣

  2. Who wrote?? If you are trying to convince somebody the least you can do is to put your name. Is this you Max Hearst?? Not Dave Ray he would put his name. Gaston Browne?? Whoever it is, must be scared of something. Wonder what it is??

  3. This letter/article IS PURE CRAPP. I do not understand what the issue/issues are/ was. What is really being said.
I more confused for reading this RUBBISH.

ABLP and the turn-coats really are worried and always reflecting themselves on the opposition.

    Poor things.

  4. I don’t write articles. I only respond to them. @Zackie, you’re correct. 💯
    @Someone must be Scared 😱
You obviously don’t know who I am because you would have known my willingness to add my name to every piece of written material. I beat my own drums all of my adult life…

Thankful for tablets and laptops as my main phone is giving trouble at the moment.
    But, carry on…

In six weeks, a decision will be made as to the ASW Labour Party voters’ choice. I wish them both well.

In any case, the one who doesn’t win will continue to have value in the administration.

@Brixtonian, where are you on this one?

Long live to Labour Party 🚩

  5. @Dave Ray, of course you want your gravy train (ALP) to keep on rolling. UPP needs to put some planks on those tracks and derail Dave’s gravy 🚇. 😜

  6. Toot Toot:
You know better, so do better. I want no gravy. I simply believe in the Labour Party’s mission to create jobs, to empower young people, and promote education of a tertiary nature. UWI Five Islands is a clear example.

Look at our port of entry. Look at our record breaking airlift arrivals.

We’re now ranked as one of the fastest growing economies in the Caribbean by the the same IMF that we had a debacle with. They had to be truthful about their audit findings…

I will continue to support the Labour Party

  7. Look, if my father would place other adopted children before me, I would be very upset with my father. After all. I’m his blood. His real child. The Labour Party will have to deal with disgruntled Laborites before it is too late. Because it would be just like in the 2023 election and Laborites will stay home and don’t vote. The ship jumpers have not brought many with them. Therefore we should not be pretending that because they no sing a different song that they are to be put on the top of the line. Sorry I do not agree with the Leader when it comes to that. Take first care of your diehard base and then you can take care of the ship jumpers. Don’t let them fool you. I know we look at people like Chet Green, Tany Rose, Melford Nicholas. But they didn’t cause any division in the party. Lamin causes division like no other. And were it only for this reason he should have humbled himself and step down. But his motives are not pure, so he will stay in the race for his personal satisfaction. He smells money. You know he complained about Giselle Isaac having four government jobs when she was in office. So far as I can tell he has now two government jobs. They even amended the salary at CMC for the Chairman and tripled it in order to ensure he gets enough money to survive. And that for a young man that should have been either self employed and making enough money or have a good paying private sector job. He is just in it for the wrong reason. And oh how he knows how to praise the PM in order to stay in his good book. And he is playing the Minister Chet out against the PM. Very cunning. All these are characteristics of the UPP. A Leopard never loses its spots.
