United Progressive Party and Concerned Citizens To Protest Tax Increases

12

Tomorrow, on December 15, 2023, the United Progressive Party (UPP) and concerned citizens will unite for a peaceful protest outside the Parliament Building in opposition to the recently implemented 2% increase in the Antigua and Barbuda Sales Tax (A.B.S.T.).

Gathering at 8:00 a.m., protestors, equipped with placards, aim to express their dissatisfaction with the tax hike, emphasizing its disproportionate impact on the working class. UPP leaders will address the crowd, highlighting the need for transparent economic decisions and calling for a reevaluation of the tax policy.

Focused on peaceful advocacy, the protestors seek open dialogue with the government to address concerns and find equitable solutions. Law enforcement will be present to maintain order during the demonstration, which is anticipated to last several hours.

As the UPP and citizens rally against the 2% A.B.S.T. increase, they pledge to continue their peaceful efforts, urging the government to consider the welfare of the people in fiscal decisions.

  1. They need to focus on the convention to choose a legitimate leader, and not continue with a de facto leader. If they believe that Hon. Pringle should be the leader, then elect him as such. The protest is a red herring. You can’t have increases in wages without a means to supplement it.

    • Supplement the increase by collecting the outstanding taxes from the businesses that refuse to pay in what has been paid when ppl buy. Yall to wicked!! Collect the outstanding but gaston can’t because be owe soo many contractors and business and he Fraid to upset the apple cart!! Imagine you beg and owe so much that you can’t even collect the country money.

    • And who are you again? The Upp will do that when they see fit. You’re not in Antigua to feel the squeeze of all these additional taxes. You in foreign living off of others cause you don’t work. So let hard working people who actually pay taxes protest as is their God given right.

  2. The UPP cannot say no, to the increase in the #SIN_TAX. All they have to do(the Ruling Arm of the Government – ABLP), is to justify the.additional SINS declared by any BRAND of RELIGION, as add them to the List of Undesirables.

I never heard of a SIN TAX before today. I read about it in something, to do with the Budget Presentation.
So, I did the #googling and yes, SIN TAX is a legal tax placed on undesirable(s), things which the System says are undesirable, and or immoral, then legalise these behaviors which are undesirable and immoral, knowing that, HUEman indoctrinated habits are gonna have them doing them anyway. And then. tax you for doing them.
Good, pick a BRAND of RELIGION, call it god, play god!

I bet you, UPP cannot oppose no SIN TAX.

By the way, now I get the concept of Las Vegas, as SIN CITY.

This S.H.I.T. (Some High Intensity Transfer of knowledge) got me vibing real nice on…
A…The Churches SIN TAX called Tithes!
B…why our GOVERNMENT both UPP & ABLP are in full support of Whorehouses, hotels, gambling dens , FETTING, CONCERTS, etc.
They are in cahoots with the Churches aka BRANDS of RELIGION, to design SIN, develop SIN, market SIN, sell SIN.

  3. I’ll be there! Sick and tired of the is pm and his minions taking all the resources and leaving us with crumbs. They have misappropriated Antigua’s scarce resources, spent and misused it and now want us to give more again? What nonsense? People have been fired for less! Time for them to go!

    • Yes @ Grabston must go! I totally agree with your sentiments, but have you noticed that the ABLP supporters just want us to put up and shut up?

The growth of complaints must continue unabashed and unabated, because in the past Gaston and his party members were given cartè blanchè in the past to do as they please.

NOT ANY MORE! ANTIGUANS HAVE AWAKEN …

      • You are still wearing your clown suit. It’s appears you are suffering from a severe mental disorder that you don’t remember who was instituted the PIT and ABST when we Wadadlians were in more dire circumstances. All you guys are doing is trying to fool your blind followers.

        • @ Colombo

Lester Bird along with leaders of Caribbean countries then initiated the VAT (ABST). It was later implemented by the UPP.
Then ABLP came and abolished PIT which poor people were not paying under the UPP resulting in the loss of circa EC$40,000,000. Now ABLP has to recoup that lost revenue but whereas poor people weren’t paying and PIT now everyone has to pay the ABST which is basically the PIT by another name.
You foolish Galatians and dumb detectives and minions
