United Progressive Party and Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union Express Lack of Faith in Ruling Party during Labour Day Rally

During their annual Labour Day rally, members of the United Progressive Party expressed a strong lack of faith in the ruling party.

The rally, held outside the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union headquarters, featured speeches from members of both organizations, with UPP leader Jamale Pringle declaring that the current Labour Party administration is the worst thing for workers in the country. He pledged his party’s commitment to working alongside the union to safeguard workers’ rights and improve their lives.

The lead-up to this year’s Labour Day celebrations has been marked by industrial actions from public sector employees, including teachers and nurses, who are frustrated by stagnant wages and other issues.

Meanwhile, David Massiah, General Secretary of the ABWU, criticized the government’s ability to address the economic challenges facing the country and the world at large, citing the lack of running water and delayed pension payments.

He argued that only those at the highest levels of the Labour Party administration are prospering.
