King Charles Reportedly Planning Visit to Antigua and Barbuda for 2026 Commonwealth Summit
King Charles III is reportedly planning a visit to Antigua and Barbuda early next year to attend the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), according to reports by Express and The News.
Both media outlets state that the monarch, accompanied by Queen Camilla, is eyeing the Caribbean nation as a potential destination for his next official overseas engagement as Head of the Commonwealth.
While dates for the summit have yet to be confirmed, Express reports that organisers are aiming to host leaders from across the 56-member organisation in the first half of 2026.
In her weekly column Emily in Palace, Express Royal Editor Emily Ferguson wrote: “With the King and Queen’s tour of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh in doubt due to tensions in the region, I can reveal the royal couple have their sights set on Antigua and Barbuda.”
According to The News, King Charles has expressed a strong desire to participate in the 28th CHOGM as part of his continuing commitment to the Commonwealth, following in the footsteps of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
“His Majesty wants to continue his mother’s legacy and show his commitment to the Commonwealth,” a royal source reportedly told both outlets.
Ferguson further reports that royal courtiers have already conducted a reconnaissance trip to Antigua and Barbuda to begin preparations for what would be the King’s first visit to the country as sovereign.
It would mark his second CHOGM as monarch, following his attendance at the 2022 summit in Samoa.
While Buckingham Palace has not yet issued an official announcement, The News notes that anticipation is building among royal watchers, with expectations of a formal statement in the coming months.
The Commonwealth remains one of the King’s key priorities—alongside climate, community, culture, and cancer—and his prospective visit to Antigua and Barbuda underscores his intention to reaffirm those commitments on the global stage.
