The United States Government hosted a crucial training event from March 12-14, 2024 at the Sir Wright F. George Police Academy, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of Antigua and Barbuda’s security agencies in providing VIP protection services.
This training, which was conducted by members of the Regional Security Office of the United States Embassy in Bridgetown, was an initiative tailored for law enforcement, defence, and security agencies, with a particular focus on those entities integral to ensuring the success of the upcoming 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4).
Participating agencies included the Royal Police Force of Antigua & Barbuda, the Antigua and Barbuda Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy (ONDCP), the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force, and other agencies.
In addition to comprehensive training sessions, the U.S. government extended support through the donation of essential equipment to augment the operational capabilities of participating agencies. This donation included 30 sets of gun belts, flashlights, and tourniquets.
Rodney Collins, Regional Security Officer for the U.S. Embassy stated, “We are proud to collaborate with our partners in Antigua and Barbuda to bolster their capacities in VIP protection services.”
He added, “This training underscores our shared commitment to ensuring the safety and security of individuals entrusted with key responsibilities during SIDS4 and beyond.”

With much respect @ chupz, I don’t think you’ve understood who the protection is really for …
“A crucial training event […] aimed at enhancing the capabilities of Antigua and Barbuda’s security agencies providing VIP protection services”.
WHAT???
How about the rest of us?
US 🇺🇲 backed training protection for VIP’S only? Huh!!!
Does the ABLP and Gaston Browne know something that the honest and hardworking citizens of Antigua do not?
Is the government forecasting oncoming unrest, and are taking precautionary measures?
I’m baffled and confused by this development – and that takes some doing. Hmmm! 🤔
You’re right.
They train locals just in order to protect their own VIPs.
This training has nothing to do with teaching how to fight crime. Just to make sure that no American official falls into a pothole.
Although I believe 30 sets of gun belts, flashlights and tourniquets will be of a great help. Imagine police officers installing tourniquets around the island and “flashlighting” suspicious persons. Might make the criminals think twice before going out.
Very nice group photograph!
I wonder where are all these officers when crimes happen???
