POINTE EXPRESS: Both drivers involved in the sequence of events that led to 16 year-old Azorae Pennant being killed on Wednesday night are facing charges.
On Thursday, the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda issued an update on the circumstances that led to the Roman Hill teenager’s death.

According to police, the 16yr old pedal cyclist was travelling from South to North along Tyrells road, while the drivers of a silver Honda CRV Motor Jeep, A43605 and a blue Toyota Hilux Motor Pickup, C744 were both travelling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the SUV was executing a right turn when Azorae swerved east to avoid a collision. Instead, he collided with the rear of the jeep, lost control and was thrown from the cycle into the path of the pickup.
Police say the incident occurred at 6:25pm on Wednesday.
Emergency medical services were called and transported the teen to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre where he was pronounced dead at 7:42pm.
The police recorded measurements of the scene, and both drivers were warned of Intended Prosecution.
Investigations into the tragedy are ongoing.

  1. So how is the Hilux driver at fault here? If I’m understanding correctly, there is no way the drive of the truck would have seen him until it was too late.

  2. @ pat a cake very good question.. the impact of the car throw his body onto the truck basically so how again is the truck driver at fault.. the driver had little or no time at all to brake for the impact. However the car’s driver would or should have seen him.coming an had better timing… just saying

  3. Like others, I’m wondering how the pickup driver gets charged here. Only thing I can think of is if that driver didn’t have lights on. After 6pm is dark at this time of year. Which brings me to the elephant in the room- was the cyclist speeding around in the dark without lights? Because that what this sounds like.

  4. They can make all the stupid rules they want, Mother Nature will do as she pleases. And in this case, taking out the dumb genes. He was riding his bike without any lights and yet drivers are supposed to see him in the dark conditions. Learn from this. Make sure people can see you when you riding bike at night. Have lights on your bike.

Laws won’t save idiots. And death will clean them up.
