Two cars were badly damaged in a dramatic crash during the Battle of the Belts racing event in Antigua on Sunday.

The vehicles flipped near the finish line, leaving spectators stunned.

Both drivers walked away without injury, protected by safety cages mandated by the Antigua and Barbuda Drag Racing Association.

Officials believe a slippery racing surface may have caused the accident. Heavy rain the previous day left dust and pebbles on the track, creating hazardous conditions.

An investigation is under way. Racing organisers have been urged to review safety protocols to prevent future incidents.

  1. WHAT THE HELL…! ..TWO CARS FLIP…? …DRAGGING OR FLIPPING…?

    WELL:

One would have thought that the ‘…FLIPPING CARS’ should have been ‘…DRAGGING.’

Seems spectators had a ‘…FLIPPING TIME,’ spectating.

    ***

AINT DRIVING NO DARN ‘…FLIPPING CAR.’

Saw a nice looking one, said to be owned by ‘…PRIME MINISTER GASTON BROWNE,’ the other day.

    Seems lightning fast:

Though no such wish is entertained, but should it ‘FLIP,’ the driver going straight to ‘…HELL.’

  2. ORGANIZERS: PLAYING WITH ‘…PROSECUTORIAL FIRE: …INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER

It was not made clear who are the ‘OFFICIALS,’ however, when a news item reads:

‘HEAVY RAINS THE PREVIOUS DAY LEFT DUST AND PEBBLES ON THE TRACK, CREATING HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS’ [Paragraph 4], and still sanctioned the ‘…RACE EVENT:’

    (a) ‘…ON SUCH TRACK: and

    (b) …IN SUCH CONDITIONS,’ these speak to:

    (i) …FORESEEABLE CONSEQUENCES: and

    (ii) …GROSS RECKLESSNESS.’

  3. All in a part of the game
Thank to the most high that it wasn’t bad
Still one of the best sports represented on our small island
But organizers need to look and take better of the track
    ND better safe keeping

  4. Wow, what a wild day at the Battle of the Belts. I was actually there. That crash was something else—definitely not what we expected. Racing is all about pushing limits, but moments like that remind us how dangerous it can be.. Can’t wait to see what happens next tho. Racing is never short on surprises!

  5. More times i’m left to question the safety in these racing events. Race tracks are made for racing but its the same as how speed kill on the road so help me to understand this.

  6. Do you ever think about verifying things before posting? The track surface was prepared Sunday morning and again during the races. Verify your information before going off of hearsay.
