Following on the success of the Bethesda Tsunami drill held in January, a second community tsunami evacuation exercise will be held next week Tuesday.

The National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) will be targeting the St. John’s Rural West District.

The drill was planned for July 18th but has been re-scheduled for Tuesday 23rd July between 1:00 and 1:30 p.m.

Disaster officials have been holding meetings with churches, sporting clubs and residents in general to discuss various issues surrounding the drill to include the nine designated safe areas.

Another meeting has been set for residents to be held tomorrow evening (Wednesday 17th July) at the Multi-Purpose Centre beginning at 7:30 p.m. NODS is encouraging residents of Grays Farm, Green Bay, Five Islands and surrounding areas in St. John’s Rural West to attend.

The first ever community drill was held on Saturday January 26th in the Bethesda/Christian Hill Community.  One hundred and thirty-nine residents participated in that exercise.
