TS Ernesto; Limited Rainfall Recorded

Tropical Storm Ernesto, was expected to bring heavy rain, instead produced strong wind gusts of up to 45 mph at VC Bird International Airport.

Orville Paige, a senior forecaster at the Met Office, reported that the storm passed just south of Antigua, with high winds but minimal rainfall.

The storm was closest to Antigua between 9:00 and 11:00 am on Tuesday, with the southern part of the island experiencing the most rainfall. Orange Valley recorded the highest rainfall at 32 millimeters (1.25 inches).

Other locations reported rainfall as follows: Cobbs Cross (25.4 mm), Dunbars (16.9 mm), Airport (19.8 mm), Diamond (2.5 mm), and Barbuda (1.3 mm).

  1. Every Hurricane is different. Remember when it came through it wasn’t yet a hurricane. It was a tropical storm. It could become a Hurricane today so the wind affected us. When it becomes a Hurricane the rain may do major damage in terms of flooding. That’s why the authorities include flood warnings in their bulletins.
