Tropical Storm Philippe Lingers as Rina Gains Strength

NHC – Tropical Storm Philippe has lingered stubbornly just east of the Northern Leeward Islands.

It currently sustains winds of 45 MPH and inches forward at a mere 2 MPH southwestward.

Though coastal watches or warnings are absent, residents in the Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico should remain vigilant.

Philippe may gradually veer west and northwest, potentially strengthening over the weekend.

Its tropical-storm-force winds extend up to 140 miles from the center, raising concerns of hazardous surf and rip currents along the affected coasts.

Tropical Storm Rina, detailed in Advisory #4, is strengthening slightly in the Atlantic.

Positioned at 18.9N, 46.6W, approximately 1080 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands, Rina sustains 45 MPH winds and moves north-northwest at 5 MPH.

While no coastal warnings are currently in place, a northwestward to west-northwestward trajectory with a slight speed increase is predicted.

Rina’s intensity is expected to remain stable until Saturday, followed by gradual weakening starting Sunday.

With tropical-storm-force winds extending up to 70 miles from its center, Rina does not pose land hazards at this time.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay informed and prepared for potential impacts from these dual tropical storm challenges in the Atlantic.
