Tropical Storm Nigel Forms in the Atlantic

Tropical Storm Nigel formed in the Atlantic on Saturday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

As of Sunday morning, Nigel was located 1,050 miles east-southeast of the Bermuda. It has maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, and it is moving northwest at 13 mph.

“Rapid strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours. Nigel will likely become a hurricane tonight, and is forecast to approach major hurricane intensity in a couple of days,” the NHC said.

Nigel is the 15th storm of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season.

Additionally, a tropical wave is forecast to emerge off the west coast of Africa by the middle part of next week. The formation chance through the next seven days is 40%.
