Tropical Storm Jerry Warning To Be Issued for Barbuda as System Shifts Closer

2

Weather officials have upgraded Barbuda’s Tropical Storm Watch to a Tropical Storm Warning as Tropical Storm Jerry’s forecast track shifts slightly westward, bringing the system closer to the island than previously expected.

The warning, effective as of 11 a.m. Thursday, means sustained tropical-storm-force winds are expected within 12 to 18 hours. Residents are urged to complete all storm preparations immediately and brace for deteriorating conditions later today.

A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for Antigua and the rest of the Leeward Islands, where tropical storm conditions are still possible if Jerry’s path continues to shift southward.

Forecasters say the system’s change in trajectory increases the likelihood of heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and rough seas across the northern Leewards. Residents are advised to stay tuned to official updates from the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service and NODS as the situation develops.
