On behalf of my family, the Barbuda Council, and the people of Barbuda, I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the family and all of those who mourn the loss of former Barbuda Council member, Mr. Wendell Nicholas.
Mr. Nicholas was an inspiring community leader and pillar of the Barbudan community. He served in the role of Assistant Principal at Holy Trinity School for over two decades.
He was also head of the school’s woodwork department for over 30 years, where he taught young men lifelong skills that were exhibited at the end of each year in the school’s notable exhibitions. He crafted dressers, wardrobes, living room sets, and more for the community at large.
Mr. Nicholas was a multi-talented individual with a passion for music. He was a founding member of BOY (Barbuda Organization of Youth) where he helped to write and perform plays and folk songs.
As one of Barbuda’s best DJs, he had a coveted collection of vinyl records, boasting all of the legendary calypsonians in his time. He was also an avid cook — season rice, bull foot soup, and fish were his specialties.
After retirement from teaching, Mr. Nicholas was voted in as a member of the Barbuda Council where he served from 2001-2005. He served in several capacities including Deputy Chairman and Chair of Education and Training.
Mr. Wendell Nicholas’s contributions to Barbuda and the Barbuda Council are everlasting, and his presence will be missed. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

MOMENTS OF GRIEF: …UNLEARNED AND INSENSITIVE: …IDIOTIC EXPRESSIONS
Well, even in ‘…MOMENTS OF GRIEF,’ the ‘…UNLEARNED AND INSENSITIVE,’ often finds it more fitting to offer ‘…IDIOTIC EXPRESSIONS.’
QUESTION
‘…How many more will be so Idiotic and Insensitive?’
*****
The transitioned was not only well known, but also most helpful to assigned law enforcement personnel, then under the command of ‘…Rawlston Pompey,’ then a ‘…SERGEANT OF POLICE,’ on ‘…Sister Isle Barbuda.’
INTELLECTUAL OF PROMINENCE
He was among some of the ‘…ÍNTELLECTUALS OF PROMINENCE,’ and particularly the ‘…Male Teaching Fraternity,’ at the lone ‘…HOLY TRINITY PRIMARY SCHOOL.’
In his instructional areas of expertise, he was subordinated to PRINCIPALS:
(i) ‘…Ramadhin Bailey:
(ii) …Reverend St. Clair Williams: and
(iii) …LENORE HENRY.’
*****
INSTRUCTIONAL DUTIES
He was known to have performed his instructional duties exceedingly well.’
He was among two others: ‘…Male Teachers:’
(i) …Everette Thomas: and
(ii) …Nigel Lewis’
He appeared ‘deeply devoted and committed to the ‘…Teaching Profession.’
Moreover, he was well respected within the island community.
MOMENTS OF LEISURE
In his ‘…Moments of Leisure,’ at the ‘…Domino Table, he’ not only socialized with the small Law enforcement contingent then stationed at the ‘…Barbuda Police Station,’ but also ‘…TAGGED-UP’ against them, thus, ensured that they were ‘…INESCAPABLY TAKEN TO JAIL.’
He shall also be remembered for his great ‘…Sense of Humor.’
Sincerest of condolences to his immediate and extended families.
REST IN PEACE ‘…NICO.’
