Source- Real News Antigua: The trial of suspended police officer Ray John has been adjourned again, this time to January 17, 2024, at the request of the prosecution, represented by Acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Shannon Jones-Gittens.

Sources report that John’s lawyer, Hugh Marshall, Jr., was not in court today, December 12, and the DPP reportedly said she had been advised that he would be unavailable. However, Michael Archibald, who represents John’s co-accused, was present.

Those watching the matter say the adjournment appears to be another step in the authorities’ attempts to discontinue John’s prosecution – for alleged fraud involving the creation of Antigua and /Barbuda passports in St. Vincent.

  1. Our legal system has some serious issues when it comes to delays of cases. It is said that Justice Delayed is Justice Denied. It doesn’t seem that anyone is being held accountable for these delays. Actually this seems to be the norm and some people are on remand for years for petty crime that their time in prison is sometimes more than the verdict they would have gotten. The OECS Governments need to do something about these frequent delays and let the people’s faith in the Judiciary return. Because I can tell you especially in the Civil Court, if you have a case against someone, it will take you sometime seven years before you get a judgement. Meanwhile you should be glad if you are the defendant are still alive.

    • @sideline,
I agree with you. I also know it is a violation of defendant’s constitutional rights. It is practically torture to keep matters over the head of an defendant.

Not saying he is not guilty or guilty but he has a right to a speedy trial.
