The trial of social media personality Washington Bramble, who is accused of making inappropriate statements about the head of the magistracy, has been delayed until June 26th.
The trial was supposed to be a short one, but it has been going on since early March due to surprises thrown at the court by Bramble herself.
During the trial, the prosecution called in complainant Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh, court clerks, and police officers to convince the court that Bramble made posts on Facebook for the purpose of insulting, intimidating, causing hatred, and causing enmity towards Walsh.
A week into the trial, Bramble asked the presiding magistrate to recuse himself from the case, citing bias. The magistrate denied the application, and the trial continued.
Recently, the prosecution rested its case, and Bramble was due to go on her defense.
However, she instead filed a ‘no case’ submission, which resulted in a ruling that there was not enough evidence to satisfy the charges related to causing enmity and intimidation, but Bramble does have a case to answer for causing hatred and insult.
Bramble made an application to the Court of Appeal, intending to have the higher court overrule the decision on the ‘no case’ submission, freeing her of all charges.
However, the prosecution believes that interlocutory decisions such as a ‘no case’ submission cannot be appealed.
The trial has been put on hold until June 26th, when the appellate court is expected to rule on the matter.
