Three Ministers in the previous United Progressive Party (UPP) Administration are due to stand trial in the High Court of Justice tomorrow, November 9, in what is now known as “The Buses  Case.”

The joint case, outstanding for six years, involves Political Leader Harold Lovell and his two former deputies, Dr. Jacqui Quinn and Willmoth Daniel, and has undergone several adjournments.

The accused were arraigned on June 14 this year and pleaded not guilty to the three charges levelled against each of them. The final case management was concluded on Tuesday, October 5.

Last month, attorney-at-law Leon Chaku Symister expressed confidence that, at the end of the day, the trio will be vindicated.

Symister is part of the defense team that comprises local Queen’s Counsels Dane Hamilton and Justin L. Simon; Anesta Weekes, Q.C., a London-based barrister; Charlesworth Tabor and Sherfield Bowen.

The matter, which began in 2015, was initially dismissed in the lower court by Magistrate Conliffe Clarke.

However, following an appeal by the Crown, the matter was taken before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh, who reviewed the case and decided there was sufficient evidence to send it to the High Court for trial before a judge and jury.

The buses were a gift from a friendly government and were negotiated by the late Ambassador John Ashe.

But from among the seven former Ministers who utilized them for community transportation, only these three senior Party members were singled out for prosecution.

It is widely accepted that the Gaston Browne Administration is prosecuting Lovell, Quinn and Daniel because they were the only UPP representatives who returned to active politics after the 2014 election defeat. (REAL NEWS)

  1. No the reason the three was targeted is because they didn’t just use the Buses they also transfered them to their name as if they bought them…. thats the reason
…. if they had just used the buses, there would have been no issues
Imagine if it was raw cash that was donated?

You can imagine all you like. Let me point you to real rip off of government’s assets. Gaston said a certain person in government ripped off the government of over $200,000 per month. I am sure this is US. Gaston said the government overpaid for solar panel and didn’t even get batteries. Who benefited from the over payments? These are only two of many rip-offs of the government’s real Money. How about all the government lands stolen? Gaston persecuting, (not prosecuting), these individuals not because they gained financially, from the busses, but because they are his opposition. Hope all the thieves in the labour government have their day of reckoning. God nar sleep.
When they loose the case, are they going to spend the people’s money to go to the Privy Counsel? The government will never get a conviction unless the jury is made up of all labour supporters. Antigua is too divided along Party lines.

    • 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Jackie has gotten more than enough out of this country. Medical Benefits money to pay for her cancer treatment. Now she a hold on to the bus GIFTED to the people of this country. Well well well. What’s next Jackie?

      • You mouth going to put u in problem.if she pay medical benefits she is entitle for that .just as if you or me pay medical benefit .i am entitle to get you as well if any sickness if u claim .maybe she claim.

        • Yes we contribute to MB but there is a quantum amount they will pay to cover your medical bills. The amount far exceeds the amount. If it was an ordinary contributor without political influence they will be sucking salts. The Politicians will take care of each other whilst we fussed and fight for them. You not get that amount of money 💰 to cover your medical bills. This arrangement was not played fairly and it’s smack as hypocritical to blind followers of Politicians. Anyways it’s how most UPPITES behave.
