  1. The situation in the Dominican Republic is no worse than the situation in the US where 3000 people are dying each day of COVID

And yet, the Antiguan PM has rolled the red carpet out for US and British COVID carriers.

Gee, I wonder what the difference is.

  2. @ Why
Willful ignorance…. Here is why. There was recently an announcement in the local news of an unscheduled, unauthorised attempt by a certain airline company based in the DR to land/dump people from that region here at V. C. Bird International. This was a flagrant attempt by them to ignore the requisite airline protocols for entry into Antigua and Barbuda. They perhaps don’t care, but the authorities here have a responsibity to protect even the willfully ignorant among us!
May you continue to enjoy good health free of Covid-19!!!

  3. You likey eso sontin when the pepol come in Santo Domingo best contry in Caribbean estupidos. No spani pepol antigua shit place more than DR. You like drinkey to plenty drink but no the money pay workey free. I go nobaddy stops me.

  4. @Anon the 1st – I still cannot see the rationale really. Yes there might be some article in the local news but how could an airline terminate a flight in Antigua without prior authorization. There are established protocols and at the final end must be.given permission to enter air space and land. So something is still not adding up.

@John Smith and persons sharing simple languages, I think we should be mindful of the language we use when referring to out guests. We depend heavily on tourism and without that the government would be unable to sustain employment of its work force. You may not be directly impacted but all of us are. If the government start laying off at this time, it will also put a further panic in the private sector who wi most likely follow suit. It also means that less people would be able to spend in the private sector forcing that down-sizing. Dont want to write an epistle but I think you can figure it out.

  5. If the PM says that he don’t want people from that country here until March 2021, that’s his call. Yes, he is receiving tourists from America and British. Them tourists are coming to spend money but the Spanish are coming to take money out of the country and draining the country little resources. It is time that the PM raise the tax rate on money transfer out of the country. I am not a fan of the PM but I agree with him on this one.

    • Many Antiguans have migrated to other countries in search of a better life for them and their families. While there, they do send back money to help their families. Do you know how many persons enjoyed barrels and cash from their relatives abroad.

Be fair, some of the spanish persons have kids, mothers, fathers and other siblings over there and will try to help. Moreover, many Antiguans use to travel to the Dominican Republic in search of jobs.

  6. the spanish people are important in election time but we going to wait for them dont worry discrimination in action see you soon

    • The authorities in DR are manipulating the information coming from there so its not just Antigua banned flights from there.

      • That’s the very same thing the USA was saying about us here in Antigua – do we really want to go down that road or do we just want to ensure that all protocols are followed both for immigration purposes and COVID?

  7. What about Antiguans in the Dominican Republic who are desirous of coming home, does this ban from entering the country apply to them too?

    • @Ron, Yes everyone coming from Dominican Republic including Antiguans and Barbudans. The PM said not until March 2021 that he would open the flood gate for them to enter. The PM is doing everything he can to help minimize a high outbreak of the COVID-19 in the country.
