Bramble slapped with 9 charges under Electronic Crimes Act

Transgender woman Washington Bramble has been slapped with 9 charges under the Electronic Crimes Act.

Among the charges is “sending offensive messages for the purposes of causing hatred.”

She was arrested on Wednesday and has been granted bail.

Here is a copy of one of the charges.

Bramble, an LGBTQ advocate alleges she is being targeted by a judicial officer about whom she has filed a complaint with the Judicial Services Commission.

    • In the Merriam Webster, you needed to read on to definition b (having a gender identity that is the opposite of female. And Washington gender identity is that of a female and hence she is NOT a male.

      Yes she was born a male but just like how rain comes from above as liquid and is called water, but when we heat or freeze it, it either becomes steam or ice when it changes state. At that point, it is not called water anymore. So too, Washington has changed state and therefore cannot be called a man anymore.

A government can controll what’s said on local media and press because there will be undisputed evidence of the author of such statements but how the hell you want to sanction what is said on the world wide web? In a normal court of law , even if it’s from that person’s social media account, a jury could not convict without definitive evidence that the accused made ot forwarded that statement..but in Antigua anything goes ..the judicial branch can be influenced by the Government ..HE WHO PAYS THE PIPER CHOOSE THE TUNE !

  8. I believe that if she retains Attorney Wendell Robinson as her legal representative, she can have these charges thrown out. It’s brought against her because of her unaccepted identity.

  10. I think only one person was concerned about the charges and if the accusations are solid or unfounded.
    Notwithstanding the corrections by Dr Dave Ray, I think we should focus on this very unique case.
    I thought this case was about a slanderous statement towards the Chief Magistrate. Now, Sharon Martin is listed as the Virtual Complaint.
    The story is lacking real substance or proper information. Without repeating exactly what was printed, far more could have been said, especially on the State’s chances of securing a guilty verdict. Not even a statement from the defense attorney was included.
    Instead of being educated or informed, the readers were left more puzzled…. which probably explained the discussion on the meaning of transparency vs transfemsle.

    • You cannot use social media to defamed or say anything libelous against anyone. Some people want to spoil your character and make false accusations against you that is wrong. Women especially is they break up with their man and he there with another woman they would go on social media and say the woman have Aids and people must keep away from them when that is not true. So there is where the electronic Law was put in place. No where in the world you can go on social media and terrorized anyone you will pay for it. If you say the same thing to a person face face to face unless you don’t have have a witness you cannot sue but on social media all the evidence are there. All you do is to screen shot the messages and then sue. Human beings must learn to behave them selves

    I read a widely circulated WhatsApp diatribe that seemed very offensive to the DPP. I believe he came out and made a denial statement after.

    But did anything CRIMINAL or anything at all come of it???

    In terms of circulation, I never even heard she made any comment about Ms. Martin but I did side eye the DPP since that Whatsapp message.

    Where were the police then?

    Maybe, like the DPP, all Ms. Martin needed to do was to make a denial statement. And we all move on with our lives.
