POINTE XPRESS– Tourism Minister Charles Max Fernandez announced that the Ministry of Tourism is actively seeking solutions to traffic congestion affecting tourist transportation to and from cruise ships.
He revealed ongoing discussions with the taxi association about introducing water-taxi services for cruise passengers, which would prioritize taxi members for operating permits.
During the Antigua Cruise Port Connect Conference, Fernandez highlighted the challenges posed by increasing vehicle numbers, leading to traffic jams that hinder taxi access to the cruise port.
To address this, he mentioned potential collaboration with the University of the West Indies FIC to explore the use of Artificial Intelligence.
Recognizing the impact of traffic congestion on the tourism industry, Fernandez reaffirmed the government’s commitment to effective solutions while managing cruise tourism responsibly. C
onsiderations for collaborating with GPH include implementing restrictions on vehicle movement during peak hours in the city.

WONDERFUL NEWS!!!! #NextLevel
Big up ya self Max Fernandez. Best Tourism Minister!
Great Idea… Fixing the car park and introducing small electric vehicle taxi’s would also create jobs and alleviate traffic. Give our young people a chance to positively interact with the tourist by shuttling them around the city via a small electric vehicle.
When everything is stuffed into St. John’s, what the hell do you all think expect?
We should have been developing Parham Harbour years ago, to alleviate the now choked up St. John’s City.
Several months ago, didn’t MP Max Fernandez talked about having cruise liners docked on the North of the Island?
How much of the island life, as in driving through the neighborhoods, smelling, seeing, tasting the sights and sites will or can taking water taxis provide?
Dato Tan should be taken to court for not delivering on his promises.
It’s about time!
