Tour Company Distances Itself From Unlawful Picnic

A tour company who does business on Prickly Pear Island is distancing itself from a recent picnic on the offshore island.

The event, which reportedly took place on Sunday, was done in breach of regulations that ban social gatherings as part of the 24-hour curfew in effect.

“We the operators at Prickly Pear Island will not do something like that”, declared Glenford Tonge, who operates Miguel Holiday Tours Limited.

“We understand the laws of the country and we know, we’ve been operating for about 40 years and we know what is right and what is wrong and when these things happen we want to distance ourselves from this activity because it really had nothing to do with us”, he said.

According to reports, the Coast Guard broke up the event, which also included a bonfire.

“At the end of the day, the island is a public place and we cannot stop who goes over to the island to use the beach or to bathe but we will just like the public to know that Prickly Pear operators, the Tonge Family, had nothing to do with what happened. We were not informed by anyone that they were going to use the island for anything”, Tonge said.

The operator, who reportedly heard about the event on social media, said “we have closed the operations since the 25th due to the COVID-19 pandemic so we haven’t been over at the island since. Now, when we heard that, it kind of puzzled us to see that we are being put in a situation that we are technically breaking the law and we tried to make some inquiry of what exactly is happening, where is that coming from. We haven’t got any great headway as to who was over at the island.”

  1. COVID19 strategy

1 Zone the country by establishing the parishes and Barbuda.

2 Create strategic check points maned by soldiers not police offices at borders for parishes.

3 No one is permitted to move outside of parish.

4 Establish medical icu facility, hospital, quarantine, police, supermarket and media etc in each zone.

5 Curfew 24/7 with a hotline to call if supplies runs low. At no time should anyone one be allowed on a public road without calling the toll free hotline first.

6 Supplies should be delivered to homes period.

    • You could not have said it any better. I had to laugh when I read these two in particular
