RETRACTION STATEMENT
Times Caribbean wishes to issue a retraction regarding the article published on March 12th, 2025, titled “MILLIONS MISSING? ANTIGUA’S PRIME MINISTER FACES HEAT OVER MEGAYACHT SALE MYSTERY.” The article, which was based on information provided by the Associated Press, inaccurately represented details surrounding the ongoing court case related to the sale of the Alfa Nero yacht.
The content of the original article was extracted from an Associated Press report written by Dánica Coto, which discussed a lawsuit filed in a United States Federal Court in Puerto Rico. The information presented in that report, which was relied upon for our article, was quoted directly from the Associated Press article. However, we acknowledge that some details within the article may have been misinterpreted or not fully clarified, and we deeply regret any confusion caused by the publication.
We apologize for any harm or misrepresentation this may have caused and want to emphasize that our intention was to accurately reflect the news as presented by the Associated Press. We have now updated our coverage to ensure it aligns more closely with the verified details of the case.
We appreciate the ongoing efforts of all parties involved in providing transparency, and we remain committed to delivering accurate and fair reporting moving forward.
Sincerely,
The Editorial Team
Times Caribbean

TIMES CARIBBEAN is known to deliver “TABLOID NEWS”
Damn that was quick
So The Times Caribbean put their spin on the AP article. Rather than reporting out what the Associated Press issued they may have crossed the line.
Let’s not muddy the water before this plays out. Soon we I’ll hear the PM and his family are innocent victims.
One would think this piece of litigation has been around for awhile given entities such as West Indies Oil and PDV Caribe are participating in some aspect of the transaction.
How did they think when the litigation is in Court in PR that m the details will not come out?
I’m suspicious the lawyers choose PR as the venue, so that it will be covered in the Caribbean Press.
Did the Government of Antigua and Barbuda know that the sanction was removed from the Ownership of the craft, before they concluded the sale?
BTW: The environmental damage excuse for selling the boat is not going to fly.
In all fairness to Times Caribbean, the story was widely carried by the Associated Press and many other publications. The Honourable Prime Minister should not just seek a retraction from Times Caribbean but from the original source of the article which has a far wider reaching and coverage than the Times Caribbean.
Sorry but damage done already and those Gaston haters love it like that. Still believe Times Caribbean should pay a monetary fine for this slander and next St. Kitts Time to follow.
Why didn’t he call out ABC that carried the original and seek a retraction? He’s just throwing pebbles in the ocean.
Pebbles indeed. Y attack the small media unless they added things that AP did not say. Y am I not hearing those involve going after the AP? What, too big for them or the truth was indeed revealed!!!
@Audrey Phillips
The Prime Minister interestingly has not questioned the contents of the AP article. Why?
For there is nothing defamatory in the Associated Press article. They reported on the Court’s proceedings.
AP is carried in the UK and EU press globally for that matter. The UK has favorable defamation laws.
The Minister could have had his UK representative get a UK lawyer and threaten to sue.
This is just PR plausible denial on behalf of the PM and his team.
A $450 million boat if you include the art work was sold for $40 million.
Right now the focus is on the money of only the $40 Million.
The bigger issue is:if one is to believe the AP article; the boat owner’s sanctions were remove by the US.
The Antigua and Barbuda Ambassador in DC was communicating with the US State Department and would have know that the known super yacht owner was off the scansions list before the sale.
If you think about it. This is a failure of the local and regional press who should have reported that the sanctions were lifted.
Recalled Schmidt walked away from his winning bid?
It’s shown that the partner involved from the law firm where the case is being heard in PR, is willing to talk.
Let’s see which local or regional media can get a deeper scoop about this case.
Does this mean that the prime minister is in the clear??
I think not????🤔
@Sandra clarke,
If Prime Minister Gaston Brown and the other Browns are innocent; well all he would have to say:
“I unequivocally deny the ascertains, and the facts and evidence will be presented to prove me and my family innocent.”
He can’t make such a statement.
The best that the Prime Minister can do for himself and others involved; is to claim the American judicial system is being unfair to him as a Blackman and his family.
That will be his last resort PR stunt.
Generations to come will be paying for this.
According to the list of how the money from the sale were distributed as provided by The Cabinet Report.
One item is for judgement debt payment. I’m guesting it’s the Half Moon Bay payments.
Young people out of school and working in the past 2 years, were not in primary school when Half Moon Bay was acquired by The Government of Antigua and Barbuda.
Do not take this lightly. Individuals unborn yet, may be paying the debt for this debacle with this Super boat the Alpha Nero
Antigua people get the government they deserve!
Wha you buy is what you shall wear!
Old people say that🤔
sure give him the opportunity to put it back and act like he doesn’t know anything about missng money lol
Mr PM it’s time you get medieval with these parasites and squeezed them for every penny they get when they spread their lies sue them because the damage is already done and pu lic opinion will run with their filth so bang them with law suit left right and center you cannot go soft on these trench crapp journalists the panty man in the night needs to get a law suit for defaming your office by calling you Brown dog he is the doggie so deal with them in the courts don’t get soft on them
I say they were damn right to sell the boat. If it were me I would’ve towed it out to sea and sink the piece of shit.
You abandoned “your” boat and STAFF and only when it went up for sale that you decided you wanted it back and it was yours all along? When your father (who I am sure was the rightful owner) said it wasn’t his, where were you? Why did you not come forward and say the boat was yours and make arrangements to pay your staff and pay the fees that taxpayers were footing?
If you so want the boat, go and buy it back from who has it now and F off!
