Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Rhonda Sealey-Thomas, has revealed that three of the now 19 positive COVID-19 cases are health care workers.
She also noted that twelve have had positive travel history.
To date, 57 persons have been tested for COVID-19 in Antigua and Barbuda of which 19 persons have been found to be positive while 37 have been reported as negative.
It was also reported that one of the positive results was that of the first COVID-19 patient in Antigua and Barbuda (Patient Zero). This is the third time that the young lady, who currently present no signs of COVID-19, has tested positive. Dr. Thomas said that this is a matter of concern for the health authorities and a further look will be made of her case.
Meanwhile, Medical Director of the Mount St. John Medical Centre, Dr. Albert Duncan has reported that of the nineteen (19) COVID-19 patients, six are hospitalized at Mount St. John with four patients being respiratory dependent. The remaining COVID-19 patients are recovering at home.
Both Dr. Thomas and Dr. Duncan have reminded the public that COVID-19 disease can be spread by respiratory droplets and contact with contaminated surfaces. “Please continue to practice cough and sneeze etiquette and wash your hands frequently and hand sanitize. The public is also encouraged to follow the guidelines set out for the state of Emergency, including the curfew,” concluded Dr. Thomas.

Our hospital and clinics may have to step up their screening process for everyone coming in and out of their facilities (clinics and hospital). Even if they are already doing this, there is always room for improvement.
I mean, even screening employees patients, and visitors to determine if they posed a risk of spreading COVID-19. The screening could consists of a couple questions and a temperature check.
This very strict policy is in the interest of the safety of the staff, patients and the community.
What has become of Gary Thomas? Is he still the hospital CEO?
@Have Mercy
That is your concern? Really? Wow.
You are quite CONCERNED with Have Mercy’s CONCERN. So what does that say about your CONCERN? Are you CONCERNED about what you ought to be CONCERNED with? You better be CONCERNED by what should CONCERN you.
COVID19 strategy
1 Zone the country by establishing the parishes and Barbuda.
2 Create strategic check points maned by soldiers not police offices at borders for parishes.
3 No one is permitted to move outside of parish.
4 Establish medical icu facility, hospital, quarantine, police, supermarket and media etc in each zone.
5 Curfew 24/7 with a hotline to call if supplies runs low. At no time should anyone one be allowed on a public road without calling the toll free hotline first.
6 Supplies should be delivered to homes period.
If only we would have lived in a perfect world were all your bright ideas would work. You need to wake the f’ck up and realize we living in Antigua a small developing countries that don’t even have 1/4 of the resources to pull off your brillents ideas.
She is now asymptomatic, which means that she can easily spread the virus without knowing. I’m sure there are many people in the population that are positive, but have no symptoms, hence the importance of social isolation. I have read that most asymptomatic people share that they have lost the ability to taste and the ability to smell, but none of the usual documented symptoms. The young lady has to be isolated until she test negative. Stay safe everyone
