The UWI Five Islands to examine Digital Transformation of the Healthcare Sector

With the ongoing global pandemic and its challenges to the healthcare sector, The University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus will examine the digital transformation of the healthcare sector in the February edition of its Public Advocacy series. The February edition of the series will take place on Monday, February 28, 2022 at 6:30 p.m.

This month’s speakers at the Campus’ Public Advocacy Series will feature Dr. Erin Van Dyke and Dr. Tania Martin-Mercado, both from the USA.

Dr. Erin Van Dyke is the Graduate Program Director for the Master of Professional Studies (MPS) degree in Health Information Technology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). She has years of experience working in the healthcare industry beginning her career at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Nursing Informatics.  In addition, she is a Professor of the Practice and member of the faculty for UMBC’s Department of Information Systems.

Dr. Tania M. Martin-Mercado is a clinical researcher with a focus on public health and diversity, equity and inclusion in clinical studies and healthcare. She is a member of the Association for Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) and her research has included genetic variation and biomarker detection for patients suffering from systemic lupus erythematosus. As the 4th Industrial Revolution unfolds, and artificial intelligence becomes pervasive, we are witnessing the Digital Transformation of the healthcare sector in ways not thought possible just a few years ago. Higher education institutions like The UWI Five Islands Campus are currently engaged in reimagining the future of work in sectors such as healthcare in a post-COVID-19 era. This means equipping our learners with the knowledge and skills to lead the transformation of these sectors in Antigua & Barbuda and beyond.

The virtual event takes place on Monday, February 28, 2022 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Eastern Caribbean time). Opening remarks will be delivered by Pro Vice-Chancellor and Campus Principal, Professor Densil Williams and followed by the discussion with Dr. Van Dyke and Dr. Martin Mercado. Participants will be able to pose questions directly to the speakers during the discussion segment. Persons can register online at the Campus’ website:
