The dictator and the traitor must not win

by D.Gisele Isaac

For seven years, I went through Gethsemane, carried my cross up Golgotha Hill, and was nailed to it … but I survived.

In the present situation, I have had nothing to lose by maintaining my silence, even as the architects of lies built their walls higher and enlarged their territory.  After all, I am seeking no vote, no office, no material gain.  Rather I am responding because of those who love our Party like I do and have urged me to speak.

While the double-sider left for “greener pastures” I was satisfied to remain loyal and faithful in the place where I pitched my tent, secure in the knowledge that I cannot be induced, bribed, or seduced by blandishments – red nor blue – and that neither my vote nor my support is for sale.

No word I wrote, or spoke, or wrote for others to speak – right up to The People’s Parliament – has ever been for “blue me,” but for others (like the one who wore yellow to signal his cowardice) to advance.

And yet, here I stand – yes, stand – in a place where my strength has beenmaligned by a weak-minded feller and by those who have elevated his treacheryinto sacrifice.

Here I stand – yes, stand – among people who, wholesale, have chosen to swallow the word of a person who proved himself capable of association on Saturday; denial on Sunday; and betrayal on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and all the days that follow.

A being capable of looking into a colleague’s eyes and lying.  A creature who sat among us as we discussed strategy, knowing full well that he was playing for the other side.

And, yet, some folks have chosen to take his words as gospel. Why?  Because it fits their agenda against “the Leadership,” of which, up to the point of sale, Less-Than-Judas was a full member.

We, the two publicly attacked members, were among the five who rebuilt our Partyfrom Ground Zero in 2018 to coming within 148 votes of reclaiming the Government in 2023. This, after our Opposition Leader, like Horatio, kept the bridge, defending Rome from the enemy and the likes of False Sextus.

Curious now that this single defender, the One who refused to allow the 15+1 in Parliament to step on the Black Man’s neck, so suddenly is painted as “weak” and unable to speak his own mind.

Amazing, too, that the woman on the battlefield – like Antandre – is suddenly being derided for being a warrior and chided for not being a Florence Nightingaleinstead.

Strange: there were no complaints about her strength, her “tone,” her capacity before the announcement of Convention; a Convention where, just three months ago, the Party faithful – those who came to stay and stayed the course – reposed their confidence in her overwhelmingly.

Because you were not the recipient of such confidence is no reason to call them “hypocrites.”  What should they be calling you after what you’ve done to them?

But, as the Japanese proverb goes, “If you wait by the river long enough,  the bodies of your enemies will float by.” And I’ve sat and watched as police commissioners and enforcer cops, magistrates and false accusers have floated by, with others still lined up awaiting their turn.

Yes, I’ve come out on the other side of Hell before; and having been outside of Purgatory these last 10 days has allowed me to have an amazing experience as Iwatched the political happenings in America.

In the space of two days, I witnessed the despair of the Democratic Party – the blue party with the people-first ethos – flicker into hope and then burst into euphoria aspatriot President Joe Biden made it possible for Vice President Kamala Harris to demonstrate her own patriotism.

It rekindled in me the belief that my party, the United Progressive Party (UPP), can use its own crisis to see the Big Picture; respond in like fashion to the changes that have taken place; and remount the fight for the soul of Antigua and Barbuda, its sovereignty, its people, its lands, its future.

Like the Democratic Party, the UPP  accomplished a great deal during its tenure in office – and that cannot be gainsaid. And had this last general election gone in our favour, I have no doubt that we would have reclaimed and advanced this country against the odds, just like the Democrats have done.

In spite of the carefully cultivated furor engulfing us now, I still believe that the UPP, with the type of reinforcement that VP Harris has received – selfless support from party colleagues; financial support from conscious organizations; campaign support from volunteers; unprecedented moral support from Black women, from Black men, from White women responding to the challenge, and from 50,000 “White Dudes for Harris” – can regroup and regain the ground that the manipulators have stolen.

Our people still believe in the ideals, the values, the programs, and the possibilities of the UPP.  The fence-sitters still believe that Antigua and Barbuda can do so much better than it is doing.  The business community knows that a UPP Administration will provide fair opportunity. And the Barbudans are assured that the UPP will not allow them to be marginalized in their own land.

The ALP and its infiltrator have done a good job of weakening the confidence of those less grounded in our Party; of teaching young people that corruption is the better alternative to hard work; of making sisters and brothers look at each other with suspicion and distrust, concluding that red money and position will alwaystrump integrity and loyalty.

But not everybody is greedy or gullible or lacking in principle. Not everybody will hold our Party to ransom.  Not everybody came to run and then, having arrived, ranaway.

There are thousands who – come what may and go who will – are bedrock believers in the hope the UPP represents and confident that it can deliver.  I put itto these members, supporters, and well-wishers that now is the time to reject the manipulation of the ALP, to stand up with our Party, and to reclaim the gains we made last January.

So, like the millions of Democrats who have galvanized around Kamala – rather than trying to create “another Joe” – our insiders and outsiders need to come together.

While we allow ourselves to be distracted by every orchestrated “report” on the UPP, the water situation remains unacceptable; the roads are still a crime against humanity; the cost of food is still climbing; the Cancer Centre remains closed; pension increases remain outstanding; and gun crimes are still paralyzing us.

The ALP’s strategy is not to address and correct these things but to weaken what it saw as a formidable Opposition from within.  But we have six million reasons notto allow the dictator and the traitor to succeed.

  3. Very Maya Angelou in your post. Thank you!

I applaud you your Most Honourable Gisele D Isaacs. Your response the attacks and destructive demolition tactics in place at present by the ABLP to destabilise the UPP and the country are correct.

I would go even further by saying that UPP must defend the utter travesty that went on In All Saints West when the constituents voted for the UPP, only to be waylaid by Anthony Smith and Gaston Browne.

POLITICAL JUSTICE MUST BE SEEN TO BE DONE.

Like you, I don’t want to see Antigua become a one-party state under this underhanded Prime Minister; and this is what he wants, because he just CAN’T win a fair fight.

The country that I love is definitely at a defining moment in politics, and this latest destabilising move must be defeated to uphold our CONSTITUTION and DEMOCRACY.

Hopefully, those left in the party are strong in mind, body and spirit to overcome the metaphorical “swings and blows” from the disruptive ABLP.

KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT … ✊🏾

    UPP UPP 🟨🟦🟨🟦🟨🟦

  4. The writer is thin-skinned like Beef. How many left labor party and joined the plm baby?

    Shawn Bird a traitor?
    Killer Gunman a traitor?
    Error Cort a traitor?

Writer you are one-sided like Pares village. Just admit that you got caught with your pants down.

Yes everyone knows it’s you who “wears the pants” and everyone else can go to hell!!!

See how far that toxic mentality gets you.

  5. “For seven years, I went through Gethsemane, carried my cross up Golgotha Hill, and was nailed to it … but I survived”. EXCUSE ME!?!? ARE YOU GOD!?!?

This line is straight BLASPHEMY. The audacity to compare yourself to Jesus Christ, a perfect being, is horrendous and distasteful. YOU are the problem with the UPP. YOU. I think that the ABLP are bad. Absolutely. But you are significantly worse than them. This entire article painting yourself as the sacrificial lamb is disgusting. Narcissism is not cute. Please seek professional help.

  6. True the Dictator Gaston and Traitor Anthony Smith must not win. However, unless the UPP changes its current leadership including you Miss Isaac the Divisive force in the party, Gaston the Dictator will always win. UPP nar go no way with you and Pringle.

  7. @ brixwhatsoever…why you not engage in a fully way to lick bottom of traitors of mankind?…maybe you are one if those calling themselves ” bottom shine “?

  8. D. Gisele Isaac there is no gains to reclaim since last January with you and Pringle leading the UPP. The party will go even further down hill wid the two of you. Get that through your big head.

  9. After reading this article, I cannot be convinced otherwise 🤣 😂 that you are not the writer of the leader of opposition speeches. “no office, no material gain.” Anyone that believes your self-interest is not involved is on harder narcotics than yourself. Individuals of this nation need to become Independent thinkers follow in the foot steps of anthony Smith, let us do our own research and not rely on these two mainstreams of propaganda. THE PPL OF THIS COUNTRY ARE NO FOOL TO YOUR RUSE.

  10. Well said Giselle!
We cannot let the dictator win!
We cannot allow the dictator to turn us into a one party state!
    We are a democracy!
Some of us garn weh the money deh!
    Sad 😔

  11. @brixtonian It must be a very enticing smell or vibrant colors that prompts you to pick up a glass of kool aid and place it to your lips, but i beg u before you consume it and invite your demise, too strongly consider the likelihood that the divided regressive party will see past their petty squabbles and reorganize themselves to be able to maintain any form of power In this country, instead we are left with a parliament where only 3/6 elected MPs of the opposition are competent enough to give any presentation without displaying their inability to do so, if the external view displays the corruption riddled, megalomania and autocratic leadership styles, I can only begin to imagine what the internal view looks like.

If it had truly been a strong party as you would have described, then the actions of no one including gaston would have created any form of cracks in unison of the club(I refuse to give it the prestigeof calling it a political party) or threaten its existence, however they must have been doubts from within all ready seeded in their minds, “Fire is catching” and There will be many more like Anthony.

  12. Gisele, while you are comparing upp to the democrats, why not do the honorable thing like Biden and step down for the betterment of the party! Your inner circle may want u but the voters who really count is tired of your boring rhetoric…. there is clearly a big problem and if upp really want to win, the swamp needs to drain which includes u and Jamle Pringle as opposition leader. U guys add no value to the party!! You may have good intentions for the country but let’s face it, both of you do not have the enthusiasm, charisma to energize new voters…. time to do the right thing!

  13. Giselle, I will certainly defend you & perhaps give you an A++ with your literature writing but concerning your skills in leadership, I definitely grade you with a ” F ” failure.

Because you are consumed with too much hate & bitterness & very humility, these qualities have justifiably led you to the cross to be nailed.

  14. Politics is too polarized in Antigua. Why can’t anyone be allow to change sides if they are not satisfied with the current situation?

  15. @ Real Talk ,Smh,Truth Be Told, izin braithwaite, True Facts, Inquisitor, Patriot, Confused, Divided Regressive Party:

A perfectly and appropriately written article. To all of the minions and more highlighted above:

She NAR go no way and that A BUN AR U

  16. This article does not address the situation at hand. It’s all about self pity. I expected you to let us know that Anthony Smith is not speaking the truth and to give an explanation of why you are saying he is not speaking the truth. From reading your article you are definitely the problem.

  17. Why don’t these keyboard happy ALP bloggers just type the thousands of names of upp voters and curse them as they are pretending to single out Gisele with their identity politics fanaticism? It would bet express the keyboarders true intentions of been a Gaston fanatic.

  18. Why don’t these keyboard happy ALP bloggers just type the thousands of names of upp voters and curse them as they are pretending to single out Gisele with their identity politics fanaticism? It would better express the keyboarders true intentions of been a Gaston fanatic.

  19. “After all, I am seeking no vote, no office, no material gain.” You’re correct as you dropped out of the race for City South because you realized that you would not have been successful.

It’s ironic how you choose to conveniently align the UPP’s philosophy with the DNC’s because of colour. We all know that the UPP is tantamount to the GOP’s principles.

I implore you to look within your Party’s structure to resolve your internal issues. I will admit that the ABLP might have its internal challenges, which is normal in every party or organization. We however have have an open mic policy on Friday evenings where members can air their views and grievances.

I wish you well in your endeavors as every country needs a viable opposition party to keep the administration on its toes.

As you oppose, do so with prudence to inspire the youth. The older heads are unable to bend at this time. The youth is watching.
The name-calling of defectors shows that no responsibility is being taken on your part.
God bless Antigua and Barbuda. 🇦🇬

  20. @lol Gisele nar go no way is exactly the problem with the UPP. She is a waste of time and divider. As they say she hab more balls than the men in the party and dats the problem. She wants the puppet Pringle to be prime minister so she can run things.

  21. @Smh now a UPP supporter tell me that Gisele want to sue lawyer Taber because he make a statement about she and Pringle. Is that woman crazy.

  22. Somewhere in this non mea culpa, Ms Isaac said that it was she and Pringle and three others who rebuilt the UPP in 2018 to within inches of reclaiming the govt in 2023.

Is she implying that the candidates and stalwarts were standing twiddling their thumbs and she was the one out knocking on door to door instead of them?

How dastardly and self-serving! I think she has gone out of her mind.
Was it this same Ms Isaac who was so hungry for power through her puppet Pringle to become leader that she discarded legal advice to have the party immediately challenge the results in the then Political Leader’s constituency?

  23. Giselle Issac you say in your article that you are seeking no office or material gain. Let me tell you NO ONE in the UPP has gained more than you in the 10 years that the UPP was in government. Woman please write less and talk less.

  24. the cost of one ABLP vote in St Marys South = $5,000,000/29 = $172,413.79, when nurses, teachers are unpaid and the nation is stinking dirty the cost of one ABLP vote in St Marys South = $5,000,000/29 = $172,413.79, when nurses, teachers are unpaid and the nation is stinking dirty

  27. Wow! Blow me thunder from yonder: I simply refuse, and would rather abstain myself from this Crab fight; of persona party assimilation. I am A-political and, my commentary can only mean to ascertain my patriotic nationalistic faith. as thus imbued; aspiring for better tangible benefits that impact fittingly manifested for the whole of A 🇦🇬 B. Thus, I am content to dwell on the imperative improvements to our nation’s decadent public infrastructures and service ethics relevant to the esthetics, and environmental conditions of “Our Capital Town” in want of becoming the shining City on a hill: even now, as reminiscent of my nostalgia of St.John’s Cathedral fading into the blank horizon on my departing voyage – on the Schooner Bird Of Paradise, in the year 1966, bound for Miami: only to return in 1996, to find that Tanner Street, my emblematic reminder- remained worst than when I left. And the deplorable galvanized fencing, unclean uncovered gutters with putrid stench emanating from stagnant wastage. The clammer for political mileage to be gleaned from the exercise of one’s political partisan affiliation – for ulterior motives, and gains; does not ennoble the aspirant to be deemed a worthy civil servant; humbly vow to serve the aspirations of the public – and not engage in self serving opportunities; when, there is no pathway to gain the trust of the masses by transparency and accountability. They all seems like a cabal of party-hacks in view to scavenge the bones of the people’s will- while singing for their suppers, and bamboozling the gullible. in-attuned patrons of our ilks with jargons of political bull-shitting. Except for the fact that politics affect even the very air that I breathe. I remain steadfastly A-Political with a bird’s-eye view of the cognizant Crab 🦀 Fighters. Dea Lawd: A foo’da e fa !?

  28. It’s so sad (and in someway quite.hilarious) that the plethora of negative comments from the ABLP acolytes, Gastonites and sycophants that nobody has mentioned the terrible way the constituents in All Saints West have had their DEMOCRATIC votes discarded.

EVIDENCE THAT THEY WANT DICTATOR BROWNE TO RUN THINGS FOREVER AND A DAY IN ANTIGUA.

Look ah how you all want dictatorship here!

    Patriots my a&%e …

  29. @ She Gone Nut!

Obviously you ABLP minions using reverse psychology because you fear the intelligence and power of the woman.
You are obviously not a member of the UPP.
You and Anthony deserve each other.

  30. Perhaps you might fear her alleged in intelligence but not plenty of us who are highly educated

  31. @Bloody.. she can’t hide it and it’s so sad. It’s her proverbial chain. What makes it worse is its impacting others around her. Thankfully trees are still able to grow in even in bad soil

  32. These are the ramblings of a psychopath. Gisele, step down and let someone else lead the party. Please don’t destroy the UPP any further so there is no hope of winning an election. What else has to happen other than having a party that lost the last election by only 6 VOTES, now sitting in shambles!! All under your leadership. Pathetic and sad.

  33. You only lost the last election by 6 votes. Now, the people of Antigua have completely had it with the ABLP Administration, and they are ready to vote them out in a landslide. In the meantime, you have successfully alienated the entire UPP leadership team, the UPP support base, and even lost a UPP Member of Parliament that went out bashing your leadership. What else exactly needs to happen for you to decide you need to step down?

  34. She won’t if she reads mine @ Just the [cracks].

My comments alone are worth around 20-30 more of the nauseating and brain numbing ABLP ones (except for Dave Ray’s that is 😉).

    Heheheeee 🤣🤣🤣

  35. @tenman

Did you and Gaston and Jerry Watts hide after making fools of yourself and your illiterate ‘foolish virgins’ comment? All now y’all should be hiding in a crab hole for how lie and deceitful you all were to the Antiguan populace.
    Poor things.

  36. @ Tom Moyer

How many monikers have you used today? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  37. @ Just the facts

How many monikers have you used all day.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  38. @ Jamas Donovan

How many monikers have you used all day? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  39. Not really a good idea for the leader of a major party to portray themselves as aligned with a particular party in the US because Antigua has to work with whomever wins over there. Also, why assume that Antiguans or blacks in general support all the Democrats’ policies? Down here people often support policies from both sides e.g. Like the Republicans we support law and order. Criminals should be held accountable. But, like the Democrats we do not like seeinig a lot of blacks jailed. Unlike both of them, what we really want to see is early interventions that prevent the youth from going astray in the first place. We do not want to defund the police or let criminals go. Like the Republicans we recognise the importance of good family structures. But, like the Democrats we believe women should be able to work not return to the SAHM 1950s lifestyle. Unlike both we think there should be flexible, family friendly workplace policies that allow women to both work and be there for the children as needed. Like the Democrats we are sympathetic to the aspirations of immigrants. But, like the Republicans we don’t thinik it’s good to allow your country to be invaded by immigrants especially the criminal type. Unlike both we believe the US should do more to assist the developing world in their development to avoid people feeling the need to migrate so desperately… So, it’s a mistake to believe that all black people support the Democrats and their full platform especially their more radical social engineering changes…

  40. @ Cringy

Another moniker? You obviously are being paid quite handsomely by Gaston- maybe not as much as $6,000,000.00 but possibly $30,000.00????????????????

My regards to your friend and companion in deceit , Anthony ‘treacherous’ Smith.

  41. @laughs It is entirely possible that multiple people think that the UPP would benefit from a makeover and that Ms. Isaac is not helping their cause as much as she imagines. Many people would like to see two strong, capable parties. People don’t want a party with a leader who cannot stand on his own to be in charge. They don’t want a puppet government. They also want a party that respects the will of the people not just their own internal will. So, whoever is in charge should try to ascertain what the people really want and carry that out as much as possible.

  42. I don’t know if Mr. Smith was paid or not; so I can’t crucify someone on hearsay alone. I also wouldn’t support a party because they compare themselves to a party in the US. The UPP would do better to focus it’s attention on continuing to hold the government accountable for actual spending and deals that are questionable, cultivating good candidates to run in each constituency, and developing policies that align with what people actually want. E.g. the UPP calls itself people focused. They try to help the poor but some of their policies are borderline communistic. People don’t want a country in which EVERYONE is treated as poor and given handouts by the government all the time. There should be social programmes to help people temporarily when they actually need it e.g. if times get tough due to illness, temporary unemployment etc. but most policies should be focused on creating jobs and other opportunities for people to help themselves as much as possible. Focus on pushing forward good policies that treat people like capable individuals whose opinions matter. Also, focus on strategies to advance development of the country (24/7 water etc.) and communities (employment, youth programmes, parks and recreation etc.). Don’t just argue against the other side. Develop your own plans.

  43. @ Neutral / Middle ground or whatever your name is.

Don’t you have a life????? DAM

    You are becoming sickening now.

    • @laughs No, I don’t have much of a life in Antigua. If you want me to shut up then fix the problems in this country. Then I can have a life. Lol

  44. @laughs I guess the rumors of UPP toxicity are true… As soon as someone starts giving reasonable ideas/suggestions, you resort to insults and personal attacks…
    Thanks for confirming the rumours…

  45. @izin braithwaithe August 3, 2024 At 10:25 pm
Well Izin, Giselle and I worship in the same church. We are Catholics. And if the Bishop doesn’t see it fit to have a word with her about this article, then I don’t know. Means they leave her to rot in hell. That is Blasphemy. And as a learned and intelligent person she should know best. But arrogance and pride got the better of her. I know Christ told us to pickup our cross and follow him. But it seems that she picked it up but claims not to needed him. Not humble at all. So sad.

    • Ohh Ms. Isaac is Catholic. That explains a lot. Catholics have to be careful when entering politics to realize that they cannot treat the world like it’s a church. The church is a “Kingdom”. God is the King, the pope servant-leads the people followed by the Cardinals, Arch bishops, Bishops, Priests and religious, and then at the bottom is the lay (ordinary) people. That sort of kingdom is a bit more of a dictatorship type system in which the lay people are treated like little children to be told what to do. But, that’s ok because God actually does know best and we don’t mind being children of God and following His word. Lay people don’t get to dictate to one another what to do though because no one is substantially more advanced than the other in theology etc. So, when participating in politics in the world, God can still be treated as King. We should strive to be moral as a country. But, beyond that we are all equal with respect to one another and must listen to one another. We don’t lead one another by dictatorship. We consult, listen, discuss, persuade, and compromise where possible. Ms. Isaac is not clergy or morally superior to the masses. As a leader her role is to facilitate discussion not make the decisions for everyone else.

      • I’m not sure how Catholic she is though because the Democratic party in the US currently supports abortion and pushing the lgbqtia+ agenda on minors. Perhaps race is more important than religion to persons like her.
