The Antigua State College Forms Student Council

In November 2020, the Antigua State College Student Council was created.

The council executive, a four-member delegation, consists of President Deborah Bryan, Vice President Selah Yeboah, Events Coordinator Anil Nanton and General Secretary Christopher Gittens. There is also a Departmental Student Council for every subdivision at the Golden Grove Campus.

Their core objectives are to provide students with a platform to develop their leadership skills; to give the student body an opportunity to have representation and advocacy; to harness the will and ideas of students to improve the college experience for all students; and to foster inter-departmental activities and enhance collegiality.

Despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, they have not wavered from their mandate and responsibilities.

Thus far, they have done advocacy work in the resit examination process, they have begun forming study groups to aid students in exam preparations and are currently planning a virtual game night for the student body.

They are also pursuing philanthropic efforts in a safe and virtual way.

Along with this, the Departmental Student Councils (a component of the Student Council) have also been proactive.

In a short time, they have successfully established stronger communication and liaison between the department’s students and the respective head of departments.

As an Antigua State College student, I am delighted to have witnessed such a historic feat in the college’s history.

In addition, I eagerly await further developments from the dedicated changemakers of the executive boards and the student council.

  1. Congratulations are in order. This is a new beginning. What a fine looking group of young ladies and gentlemen who are on the road to success. Thank you for your service. You make us proud.

  2. Congratulations!
Hopefully your trailblazing will encourage all further education & tertiary education student bodies to create associations at their institutions.
Then the formation of a non-partisan national Students Union … From which some of our future business, education, medical, professional & political leaders may emerge.
    Exciting times!
