It is alleged that a 68-year-old man, the proprietor of the Pond View Superette in Old Road, was the victim of robbers who assaulted him and took his cash pan.

He reported the incident, which took place at about 4:30 a.m., to the Johnsons Point Police Station.

Allegedly, the man and his wife had gone to open their shop and, while in the process, they saw an unknown man push open the shop door, which had been closed but not locked.

The intruder, who is described as about 6’4” in height, is of a slim build and a brown complexion and was dressed in a pair of black pants and a red hoodie at the time.

He reportedly pointed what appeared to be a black-handled handgun with a spin barrel at them and asked, “Where’s the money?”

The shop owner then grabbed onto the assailant’s hand and tried to wrestle the gun away from him.

Further reports are that, at this point, another man entered the shop and hit the owner on the back of the head with a gun; and, as a result, the victim surrendered.

The other assailant is described as being 5’4” in height, bow-legged, brown in complexion, and was wearing dark-coloured clothing.

After the assailants demanded money, the man’s wife reportedly told them that it was in the car and then began to scream.

Reports say the robbers subsequently took the cash pan, containing $300, and an undisclosed sum of coins from a cash register at the shop’s entrance.

The duo then fled in an eastern direction, in a silver car that had been parked in close proximity to the shop.

A search was carried out in the surrounding areas for the assailants and the stolen money but without success.

    • Antiguan Police would become obsolete if, business owners had firearms; hence, they don’t want the general public to have weapons because job security is more important than public safety.

  2. I hate to say this, but we all know who these robbers are! But until it’s one of us staring down the barrel of that fire arm we want say anything…. this thing about not snitching and selling out will never stop… just wait until they find one of them dead!!!

  3. ” we all know who these robbers are!”
    I don’t know who,,who they are.
    How you sooo knowledgeable?
I would bring you in for questioning errrr,, I meant,,, snitching,, after your public declaration.

  4. Wow! Old road? I always want to believe crimes of this nature will be hard to commit and make an easy escape in Old road, but I was wrong.
The default of our police in this country is patrolling and a good radio communication system. You may have called and make report, but if there wasn’t a patrol already in Old road or even Fig tree hill dr area you not gonna ketch any body and that’s why we kept hearing police make search of area and find nothing.
A crime took place and instead of giving a shout out to patrols, you have to jump in a vehicle from Johnsons point to travel up to Old road, keep in mind it was noted the silver car took off in an Eastern direction. So what surrounding area are you searching? and for cash!
