A 13-year-old boy is now in hospital following a major scare while swimming at Sand Haven beach on Easter Monday.
It is reported he encountered difficulties while in the water during a family picnic and was unresponsive as he was pulled from the water by his stepfather who quickly administered CPR.
The procedure helped to resuscitate him and a team from the Emergency Medical Services, comprising Cranstine Henry and Keifer Southwell, carried out additional interventions while transporting him to Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.
He has been admitted for further treatment and his family is hopeful he will make a full recovery.
Director of the Emergency Medical Services, Sean Greenidge has praised his stepfather’s quick action in administering CPR and is urging members of the public to learn this technique.
He has again welcomed the life-saving collaborative effort among family members, the EMS and hospital, 24 hours after a similar effort in Cassada Gardens following the rescue of a three year old from a cistern.
That three year old has since died.
Authorities are urging adults to closely monitor their children, especially during excursions and other family gatherings. — State Media
