A 16-year-old boy in Antigua and Barbuda, who brought a gun to Clare Hall Secondary School, is set to be moved from His Majesty’s Prison to a private residence following a magistrate’s court ruling in his favor.
The student was remanded on October 1st, leading to a school lockdown. Initially denied bail, his attorney, Wayne Benjamin Marsh, argued that he should be housed in a Secure Residential Facility for juveniles under the Child Justice Act of 2015, emphasizing the lack of such a facility in the country.
Justice Tunde Bakre agreed and ordered his placement in a secure facility, directing the relevant authorities to act.

I strongly believe that if the police and ABLP government was listening to my recommendation pertaining to police officers being present on school grounds as a form of deterrence while teaching safety classes, as I strongly recommend as my research shows it is highly needed, this would have mostlikely not have occurred.
The classes would be taught by officers in dress uniform (less threatening). These classes will be about safety, community cooperation and neighborhood protection.
It allows students to contribute to national security by stating what they want to see in the neighbors and the fact officers are present on campus on certain days, would also have significant crime deterrence on school grounds and that same community.
This is vitally needed, get to the source of the criminality with youths, be close to them. Do it asap ABLP
Another one of my ABLP comrades will be making some easy money off the state. Why not set up a juvenile wing at the Base where our special and elitist criminals are housed?
He can stay with me. I’ll give some good discipline that his parents were not able to give him. When he leaves my home he will be a decent and changed young man.
“Secure Residential Facility” – you mean like an AirBnB? Where can i submit proposal?
Wonder if a certain party Chairman going to borrow his gun so she can fulfill her wish “I have some people I’d like to kill”
SEND HIM TO STAY AT THE PIG MEAT MOTEL AT MC KINNONS.
Because his family not have money to buy Vaseline.
The government should invest in facilities for these young people instead of sending them right to her majesty’s prison.
Just listen to those bleeding heart criminal defenders! He should be made to stay right where he is in the absence of “suitable” accommodation for juveniles Look at the number of juvenile school shootings in the US which resulted in the murders of mainly children and school personnel. They should remain in jail, perhaps sequestered from their adult criminal relatives and pals! I hope that those attention cravers are willing to allow these thugs to live in their homes until released. With respect to the Clare Hall Secondary School incident, the million dollar question still left unanswered is, Where is the gun that this “poor baby” brought to School? Who retrieved the gun following the incident. Nobody seems concerned. WHERE IS THE GUN????
I don’t understand why he is being remanded to prison and deny bail. He’s just a teen that I’m sure doesn’t even understand the use of a gun. Maybe just saw it laying around and decide he will take it up to flaunt with his friend. Unknowing where it could’ve led too. Maybe he charge him I understand but locking him up as well is taking it too far. Matter fact the person responsible for the gun should be charged for being sooooooo careless.
Her Majesty’s Prison is no place for a Juvenile. Matter fact it’s no place for anyone. It’s unhealthy. Get this child out of there before he round up like the rest of them in there
We fight for the things least needed to be fought for. Maybe he belongs right there for him to understand that criminal life ain’t no good life. Gun life ain’t a good life. Cause maybe that same firearm could’ve resulted in something bad. Yes he’s a juvenile but something they deserve maximum punishment.
@Ericia – How do you know he doesn’t understand gun use? These children are far more intelligent than we give them credit for. They want to live life early, so let them learn what life is about…early. What if someone was killed – even by accident? We seem determined to defend irresponsible behaviour. All of this child’s peers and indeed the rest of society are watching for the outcome of this case. No there isn’t is a proper juvenile detention facility and we need to fix that, but let them remember that next time they think to put other people’s safety at risk.
