Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne and his wife, Hon. Maria Browne, have generously donated XCD$20,000.00 to Team Antigua Island Girls’ fundraising efforts.

The funds will support the team’s initiative to establish a facility for girls in conflict with the law in Antigua and Barbuda.

The donation was announced during a reception ceremony to welcome back the rowing team after their intrepid 41-day journey in the world’s toughest row, Pacific edition.

With the Prime Minister’s pledge, the team has exceeded their fundraising goal of US$25,000.

The support from the government marks a significant step in creating a positive impact for young girls in need.

  1. Congratulations team island girls!
A word of caution to your admin manager, we’ve heard about pledges to rowers before…please only count on the the funds in your charity account, and until pledged funds are received, tis but showtime.

  2. A “PLEDGE” IS NOT WORTH ONE COPPER,UNTIL THAT PLEDGE HAS BEEN HONORED IN FULL.JUST A LITTLE FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

  3. Rather yarn applauding they will focus on the next negative. Has Gaston Browne ever not kept his promise when he made a pledge?
I mean just go back to even the Barbuda relive find, he pledged $100k. Didn’t he paid it. And many many more to numerous to mention. This is a man and politician unlike any other we have ever seen. He has given more to charity than any other politician in the entire Caribbean,

    • @From The Sideline – And he did say that civil servants will receive an increase in salary after election. A promise is a comfort to a fool.

      • And they will, but when is the question? And of course, the unions want to make unreasonable demands.
I remember right before the 2018 election he gave all civil servants a 5% raise unilaterally with the union’s consent because he saw that they were deliberately dragging their feet. And you guys called it a political ploy at that time to win votes. Gaston Browne always keeps his word. Promise made Promise Kept is his mantra.

  4. I guess Brixtonian you have nothing bad to say about this, so you keep quiet.
As my teacher used to say, if you can’t say nothing nice, don’t say anything at all.
