Symister says abuse of powers by the prime minister highlights need for reform of Constitution

REAL NEWS:

Urgent calls are being made for constitution reform as it relates to
the powers vested in a prime minister.

Many residents believe the rights accorded to the head of
government are far too extensive and that Prime Minister Gaston
Browne has been abusing his authority to intimidate and otherwise
victimize individuals.

During their industrial action staged on Monday, November 13,
some employees of the Antigua Port Authority claimed that Browne
has been using his influence to stymie negotiations with the Antigua
Trades and Labour Union (AT&LU), since, for four years, they have
been trying to work out a collective bargaining agreement.
The AT&LU is known to have a degree of affiliation with the ruling
Antigua Labour Party Administration.

Meanwhile, attorney-at-law Leon Chaku Symister says it appears
that even the powers to call a General Election and to appoint a date
for swearing in a new member of the Lower House are being abused
by Browne.

Accordingly, Symister says it will require some changes to the
Constitution to address this situation and to curtail the powers of a
prime minister.

He believes that giving such sweeping powers to this single individual is one of the weaknesses in the country’s Supreme Law.

Symister, the United Progressive Party (UPP) spokesperson on legal issues, says the UPP is therefore committed to Constitution reform
and pledges to address this once elected to public office.

  1. Chaku you say that and if UPP is in power the same constitution and what you perceive are short comings will remain.

    Once bitten…..

  2. Chaku you and the UPP, MUST start the ball rolling on “the Constitutional Reform(s).”
Just don’t talk about it, be about it by taking decisive action(s).

One such Constitutional reform, which would greatly bring many of the negatives which you mentioned, under control is 🪘🪘🥁🥁🥁🥁🛢️🛢️🛢️#Drum_Roll…

ALL ANTIGUANS, BARBUDANS & REFONDANS, whether or not, they have dual citizenship MUST be allowed to run, to become a Member of Parliament.
Next, ALL SENATORS MUST be elected by the citizens, not selected by their Puppet Masters as henchmen, henchwomen, henchtranny!

      1. Why was Chacku removed from APUA as the head?
      2. Did a judge ever refer to chacku as been abrasive & why
      3. Can you recall when attempts were made to shut down ZDK & CTV some years ago?

These questions are asked bcuz it seems to me that ” SATAN IS TRYING TO CORRECT SIN “

  3. There are benefits in losing. The loser has already been sworn in as a Senator and a Junior Minister whilst the person duly elected by the citizens of St Mary’s South in a convincing manner is languishing out there and wondering what will be the next move. Something is fundamentally wrong with our systems and this situation only highlights it. We conveniently have no regard for the elected member of parliament.

  4. The Attorney at law, Mr Leon Chaku Syminster is absolutely correct when he states that our constitution laws needs to be changed forthwith.

Prime Minister Browne has been mandated by the citizens of Antigua to govern the country properly, and not to stymie, pontificate or deliberately delay the process of governmemt matters, or the swearing-in of elected members to Parliament.

Browne also knows he’s overstepping his Parliamentary boundaries, and he’ll keep on pushing and causing more and more political discord as long as he stays at the helm.

And furthermore, If he could, he would try and PROROGUE Parliament as well, so that he could discontinue sessions in the House to stop any sort of scrutiny of himself, or his party.

THIS BADMINDED MAN KNOWS NOTHING ELSE!

Well highlighted Mr Syminster, I applaud you sir 👏🏾

  5. Lest we forget! UPP abused their power when they took office and people lost their jobs and were victimized. If that is not abuse of power, then I don’t know what is. “Tief nah lub see nex’ tiene wid lang bag”

    • And 40-odd years of Birdism and Browneism hasn’t seen any improvements at all @ Hmmmmm?!!!

Again, mathematics isn’t ABLP supporters strong point.

I THINK I’LL COMMENCE A MATHS CLASS FOR THE LOT AH DEM 😁

    • @ Hmmmmm?!!!

Like how Gaston victimize all the workers at Transport Board which necessitated him paying millions of dollars to the workers.

So as you say, look in the mirror Pontius Pilate.

  6. I know this is not a popular position held by Antiguans and Barbudans in the diaspora, but take a look at the Oath of Allegiance u swore to, to become a citizen of the USA. After swearing to that, how could u possibly say that u should be allowed to sit in parliament?

I laugh when I hear the same ppl ranting about swearing allegiance to the king/queen. Such hypocrisy!

  7. Mr Symester have several seats please and thank you cause you and your party no better the ALP. I’ll never forget how me and my family were victimized by UPP. Dismissed from jobs blocked form others and all sorts of crap because you Mr Symester and your party claimed we were ALP supporters with no proof of such. You have more heart than a pack of cards to be talking this when there are so many skeletons in your closet. Bunch of hypocrites you and your party be.

    • @ Amneisa

You are nothing but a fake, so much so that you cannot even spell your own moniker. Amnesia. There, I have helped you, you Liar and fraudster. UPP. especially Wilmoth Daniel say ebrey baddy must nyam as opposed to Gaston Browne who doesn’t give you work unless you support the labour party.
I know, because of my political affiliation, neither me nor my family can get a job under Gaston Brown and I am not lying and can’t spell like you you minion. I will proudly declare it for the world to know who Gaston is- a very wicked and spiteful man: vindictive.

      • Please stfu cause you know know who I am and I sure as hell don’t know you are nor do I care. It really hurts you UPP paid trolls who browse on here all day looking for people to argue with. The fact my family and myself was personally victimized by the like of Mr Symester and you party and no amount of long wind paragraphs full of your lies can change that. So why don’t you join Mr Symester and have several seats in the back the class you useless lying hypocritical pig!!!!!!
