  9. Condolences to the family and friends. i think everyone will be baffled by the fact that SLBMC sent home a suicidal patient a day after he tried to harm himself. Also why would the family leave him unattended

  10. lemme touch on how a person who tried to harm himself a day before out home alone the very next day. condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Victor. It would’ve been better to hear his cry and not feel his absence.

  11. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends!

What kind of hospital discharges a person that ingested poison without an ironclad support system in place; was he evaluated by a psychiatrist before he was released? Didn’t the ingestion of poison raise an alarm of possible suicidal ideation; did anyone at the hospital ask him if he was trying to hurt himself?
How did he get to the hospital after ingesting the poison?

I hope my gut feeling of what appears to be negligence is wrong.

  12. Dear Delroy, I click on the news daily reading things about the world. who would’ve known that today i would’ve been reading about you. I grabbed my phone the moment i heard a coworker saying “they found some man by the name of Delroy Victor hanging”, the moment i was over with reading, my eyes filled water and i was asking God to let it be another person or a fake identity. i got the call of confirmation, that you will no longer be here with me. I spoke with you yesterday and you told me that you never knew it was poison. Delroy why didn’t you just speak with me and tell me what’s on your mind. i miss you so much and i have to live with you not coming back to me. Please delroy, wake me up from this nightmare. i ca

  13. I believe the ministry of health and the Hospital or whoever is in charge of caring for those type of person NEED to PAY special ATTENTION to these types of persons when admitted to the hospital on suicide attempts. They shouldn’t be discouraged from the hospital without getting the proper care the follow-up NEEDED government/ hospital NEEDS to provide counseling and ALL the help needed for those individuals while been admitted and after been discharged. Ingested substance that will end your life doesn’t mean when doctors sees you to be physically fit to go back into society means the problems are resolves. This is a spiritual mental, emotional and psychological problem.
You fix one aspect. What about the others? I am so sorry.someone has to go through this.😭😭😭my heart goes out I’m in so much pain. Sooooooo many challenges in life causes people to snap

  14. Did he live alone? Very sad indeed. The young man should have been under a suicide watch given the poisoning attempt before.

  15. Anr can we get some more information please?
What kind of poison did he drink?
    Was it accidental?
    You guys need to ask
    Who?
    What?
    When?
    And why???
    Geeez.

  16. My condolences to the family so this is the kind of stupid ness that is happening so he ingested poison stayed in hospital then discharged should have never happened what should have happened is that he should have transferred to clarvue to get further treatment he should have under no circumstances sent home this nonsense must stop these doctors must do their jobs correctly his life could have been saved if the correct protocol was followed and family members should have asked questions and this needs to stop and somebody needs to be answerable why was this not done why was he not transferred to get a Psych Eval and management this nonsense must stop

  17. We clearly missed an opportunity to save a life here. Having recently been released from the hospital for ingesting a poisonus substance, he should have been carefully monitored and under a 24 hour suicide watch. It is obvious that his mental state was having the better of him and he wanted to die but society should have seen this and acted upon it. We missed an opportunity to save a life.

  18. The fact of the matter is, a person who clearly was on the edge was sent out of the hospital.

Questions to the Arm chair know it all
    1. Does Antigua have a fully functional 24 hour social service system to support the hospital with such cases?
    2. Was he just sent home without any notice to immediate family members taking into consideration why he was at the hospital in the first place?

After this “ incident”, I trust the relevant authorities will step up to the plate to ensure that this does not repeat itself!

My condolences to his family and colleagues.

  19. I am not a psychologist, or psychiatrist, but I am a mother, sister, cousin and wife, and there are so many persons who needs help crying loud and society is so busy that it’s deafening…, with that said how could someone be discharged so shortly after ingesting a poisonous substance, why there wasn’t a psych referral done?

  20. Wait I know news organizations always give half or partial news, but if a suicidal person was seen in the ER for attempted suicide, why wasn’t that person kept for mental observation. As well if a person had a failed suicide attempt and they live alone why send them back home alone in the same environment. This man should have been kept for a 24 to 48 hour observation to ensure he can return home safely. Wow this is poor decision making. As a social worker and a person who works in the medical field this decision was poor. All these doctors and politicians talk about mental health and address it and when real life situations occur they drop the ball.

  21. Wow! With all of these comments I see a outpouring of love for this young man. I hope he knew he was loved. Condolences 🥀 to his family. May he rest In Peace.

  22. Sent home a day after ingesting poison? Thats impossible the news should get the dates straight cause this would never happen. Ppl drinking 10 paracetamol and staying hospital not someone that drink poison ok. stop give the hospital bad name. Chupz

  23. Attempting suicide is a criminal act under the laws of Antigua and Barbuda. The police should be called in and the person is taken into custody. However, this is such a sensitive situation that the law is not generally followed unless the person is aggressive. So they are usually released into the hands of love ones. He should not have been left at home alone. On the other hand if someone is bent on ending their life, it’s extremely difficult to save them. They still do it at the hospital, in the police cells and at the mental institutions.
All we can do now as a nation is lift up the family that are left behind to suffer. Also put more support system for people who are going through these mental challenges.

  24. Arresting someone for suicidal attempt is not gonna curve the problem that causing them wanting to take their own life. In the first instant, it should not be a criminal offense. When he is hungry. And cannot find food does the country or the authorities stepped in to help when a person is unable to finance themselves and their family does the country comes in to assist or the law? So now when life is not dishen, good at that person and they decide to end it why is it that the authorities now care whether he lives or die? This is total nonsense, so it should not be a crime to begin with. What they need to focus on. Is putting support system in place to facilitate persons who are going through situations like this and not just put things in place, but have reputable, respectable people who will keep people business and not open their mouth wide to discuss with others about your problem that you face and this is one of the situation that we encounter through life. People are in position and you cannot communicate to get help. Your business is all over Antigua, so say 1 say 2. We?
Need serious help. There is a thin line between sanity and insanity and this is not just physical It is also spiritual the Bible speak of it, whether we believe it or not the body is made up of spirit and physical being. I remember when my husband died. I am working and always have been working now after his death. I could not afford to maintain myself and the kids someone introduced me to 2 agents that will assist you with voucher, so you can get food items. I went to both and I was told to bring in certain document when I did. I wasn’t eligible based on my salary. Now remember when you it is 2 things more easier than when it is one things becomes hard. We had loan and bills to pay food, and kids to take care of now it’s me alone. My salary could not cover all that was needed to be done and I was told because I am working I could not get the help that I needed I explained after finish pay loan that We took out to bill our home there was no money to buy food. So I am going to work hungry. My kids going to school hungry coming home not having a proper meal, but they need to be educated. How can one learn? Without eating and I start begging asking for help. No one came to my help It reached to a point where I thought I was gonna caved in. I call the mental home seeking for help. And I was turned down because I wasn’t referred by a Doctor I don’t believe a Doctor needs to diagnose you as having a mental illness before you can get help. It is your body you’re supposed to be knowing what’s going on in it. And the sooner I get help, the better it is. I reach the brink of doing what this man did but thanks be to God he rescued me. And when I ask for help, nobody believe that I needed help you’re dressing too nice. You look too good. How is it you’re saying what you’re going through you are going through so I didn’t know, not being depressed and going to mental illness has a look, I was at my brink as I said, God in his mercy love and grace rescued me. Things haven’t turned around 100%. I still have my loans still have to do exactly what I have to double up with jobs. Leaving children home to do 2 jobs to maintain them. Do you think this life dishes good? So if I attempted suicide and police arrest me would that correct the problem? No, it would not. And now if I am at work leaving children alone home and things should happen while I’m trying to make ends meet for them I would be arrested for leaving them home alone but seriously do I have a choice?
There are people out there who are going through hell and high waters and suffering seriously in silence and there will always be a breaking point
