The US$ 7.5 million renovation work at the Sunshine Hub Car Park on Independence Drive may result in new amenities: a bus terminal & vending area.

The car park is presently under evaluation by the National Asset Management Company (NAMCO) and assessments are being made for the car park to be functional during the next phase of development.

Minister of Information, Melford Nicholas, revealed that there are plans to construct a new bus terminal as well as to develop the southern side of the facility’s modern bus terminal.

With the recent call for Old Parham Road vendors to relocate, Housing, Land and Urban Renewal Minister Maria Bird Browne has proposed a paid vending facility to be apart of the renovation work at the car park.

“It’s going to be a vendors park with approximately 15 booths, bathroom facilities, and a bandstand. Only a small maintenance fee will be necessary, especially for the upkeep of the restrooms and the surrounding area,” she explained.

Browne noted that the drawings for the park are being finalised and construction is expected to start by April, adding that the facility would most likely be managed by the St John’s Development Corporation.

Minister Nicholas also disclosed that the implementation of metered parking is expected to be completed before the end of summer.
