Strategic Group Formed to Support Jamal Pringle, but Efforts Falter Due to Non-Attendance
In a candid interview, Anthony Smith revealed insights into the internal efforts of the United Progressive Party (UPP) to bolster the leadership of Jamal Pringle, Leader of the Opposition in Antigua and Barbuda.

“We all knew that the Honorable Jamal Pringle had some shortcomings,” Smith stated.
“However, we wanted to move the party forward and, in wisdom, the party set up a strategic group comprising some of the brightest minds within the UPP.”

This elite group included notable figures such as Dr. Mansor, a renowned political strategist, Derede Whitlock, daughter of Charles W. Samuel, and Desmond Charles, a long-standing member of the party with significant strategic experience.
Additionally, a political specialist from Barbados, who had provided campaign advice to other high-profile campaigns, offered his services pro bono.
The strategic group, described by Smith as an “All-Star team,” was dedicated to the improvement and development of Jamal Pringle’s political acumen.
They met every Monday for eight months with the primary goal of addressing any deficiencies and enhancing Pringle’s capabilities as a leader.

“Despite the extensive support and resources made available to him, The Honorable Jamal Pringle could not be bothered with attending these exercises to better himself,” Smith said.
“He was often absent from meetings without excuse, sometimes even out of the country without notifying anyone.”
Smith’s revelations paint a picture of a concerted effort by the UPP to ensure strong and effective leadership, which was ultimately undermined by Pringle’s lack of commitment. The group’s disappointment was palpable, given the critical role of the Opposition Leader in the country’s political landscape.
“The position of Leader of the Opposition is no joke; it is a very serious job,” Smith emphasized.
“The party and the people placed their confidence in Jamal Pringle, expecting him to lead effectively. However, his repeated absences and lack of communication were a disservice to both the party and the nation.”
Smith’s statement highlights the challenges faced by political parties in ensuring their leaders are adequately prepared and committed to their roles. The UPP’s efforts, though extensive and well-intentioned, struggled to yield the desired results due to Pringle’s non-attendance.

Frankly speaking, I don’t think Pringle really believes this improvement is necessary –because his seat is SAFE — and he makes more money in opposition anyways.
The desire to change requires a conviction that the change is necessary and that you truly want it.
Is he talking about how he jumped to to the ALP cult to improve himself financially? He will now be quiet like a church mouse and have nothing to say when he visited cult meetings.

Don’t you know that this young man has been financially sound for quite some time now? He held major positions in companies for several years, with the latter being Western Union.
His wife is a Board certified Internist who practices outside of Antigua where she’s appropriately compensated.
It’s not cool to think only in terms of financial gain when people choose to serve. If he is of the view that he can make a valuable contribution to his country by serving in this administration, why should you choose to berate him?

Brix I feel your pain. The truth is hard to hear. But just incase you did not listen to his speech in Parliament, he did apologized to the People of ASW who have a difficulty with his decision. He now needs an independent media to voice his griefs that brought him to this point. He needs to let go of some of the things that were so troubling to him. Speaking Truth to Power is good for the soul. And yes many of you have a hard time listening to that. But if you do not want to repeat the same thing again, just plug your ears and do nothing about the issues within the party. Good luck to all of you UUP dreamers while licking your wounds. Before you know it, it will be 2028 and Gaston will call another election. Be ready or this time surely we’ll take ALL 17 SEATS.

The UPP should be punished at the next election for the incompetent slate of candidates they have presented to the people of Antigua and Barbuda to represent us. This was and still is a big insult. Where the hell will we go with these people. They would be a big embarrassment to the country. Politics in these days is not for secondary school dropouts, allege rapist, conmen, laggards and convicted murderers. We need men and women who can make us proud on the international scene. Not just locally.
