Online Ticket Fraud Hits Local Business as Phone Scam Targets School

An online ticketing platform has reportedly lost more than $1,100 in a credit card scam, one of two fraud cases reported this month highlighting growing threats to local businesses and institutions.

According to police, an individual allegedly used fraudulent credit cards flagged by Visa to purchase event tickets through the company’s application in late August. The co-owner detected the suspicious activity and reported it, prompting an investigation and police interviews with the business.

In a separate case on 15 September, staff at a local educational institution were duped by a caller who impersonated a well-known figure. The individual allegedly attempted to persuade employees to buy $200 in mobile phone credit for several numbers. The school director later reported the incident, which was referred to the appropriate police station.

The incidents show how criminals are combining digital fraud with more traditional impersonation scams to exploit trust and technology. Police say investigations into both matters are continuing as efforts are made to identify those responsible.

  1. People need to initiate the security features on their credit cards, which allow you to either freeze the card or lock it if you are not using it. When you ready to use the card you unfreeze or unlock it. I am also wondering if the banking institutions in Antigua have the same features on their debit and credit cards. All the politicians, learning institutions, and banking establishments talk about AI but their tech ability for their institutions are archaic. Scammers are very smart and they will find a way. They got me before and recently, but now I lock my debit cards when I am not using it.

  2. They only saying their investigating but their not doing so .. sometimes when they found out its their friends n family members they stale it n then drop it..

  3. I was contacted by an individual saying he’s Mr hadeed asking me to purchase Sim cards as well. I was immediately suspicious cause why are you calling ME and YOU are rich. Told him I’ll call him back n reported to the police. All they did was listen to my story. They never followed up with me . ANU POLICE ARE LAZY!!! DO BETTER!!!
