Stedman Scotland, 82, has been charged with six offenses following his arrest in St. John’s Antigua and Barbuda, which has sparked public outcry and an internal police investigation.

Scotland faces charges of Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, Battery on Police, Failing to Give Name, Failing to Comply with Lawful Direction, and Threatening Language. He has been granted station bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, March 10.

His arrest outside a barber shop, captured on cellphone video, has drawn criticism over the officers’ actions. The footage shows two officers—one in plain clothes—removing Scotland from the establishment. Reports suggest the encounter stemmed from an alleged traffic violation.

In response to public concern, the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has confirmed that the Office of Professional Standards is investigating the conduct of the officers involved.

  1. That was expected all petty charges officer basically picking at straws now he would HAVE TO prefer those charges to try and justify what he did lol smh officer feel he smart 😏

  2. This article is pure b.s. A minor traffic offence is not arrestable offence! The only thing that should be done here is for the officer to issue a traffic ticket or call the Traffic Warden or a wrecker. This incident is just a scare tactic by the police fully well knowing this case will not reach anywhere. A perfect case for a good lawyer to challenge. Shame and disgrace 😔 😞 😪

  3. Battery on police? I don’t believe that one , parking violation yes, failing to give his name yes , but putting his hands on the police NO ! One has to say something to justifies their action thats it !!!!!

  4. Look at how corrupt these officers are. They are some despicable liars. That elderly man didn’t do none of what they’re claiming. That stinking mouth plain clothes officer who instigated this whole ordeal had NO justifiable reason to start a confrontation — he just had to show off the little power he’s granted by the state. And, the St Vincent thug should be given a job 1735 — he shouldn’t be dealing with the general public. ,

Antiguans well being are at risks of cop fragility!

  5. The only charge that can be preferred is not giving his name, and that can only be after a substantive caution, that he has committed an warrantable offense, and advised of his “Marenda” right: that anything he says after his arrest can be used against him.in a court of law. He was not so advised or request to submit for an arresting submission: but to the contrary, was rather violently manhandled, and force to comply before being caution; and, for which he was within his right to defend himself. I fine it wanting, that the supervising officer on duty at the station did not advised the arresting officer of any charge that should be perffered, and would rather have the officer throw mud charges at the defendant; hoping some would stick. This
Is compounding and abusing the judicial process of, innocent until proven guilty.

  6. Them police men will give u a ticket just for having dirty registration plates even when it’s raining and the place mud up. KMFT 😒😒😒

  7. The driver wasn’t in the car, so all that’s required was a ticket on the windshield, car being towed or simply clamp a boot on the wheel.
No need for him to enter the barber shop looking for the driver unless as a good officer, he just wanted to ask the driver to move his car.
A man shouldn’t be arrested and treated that way, by being handcuffed and thrown in the trunk of a car for simply parking in a no parking spot. An apology should have been the right move by the department, too much power!

  8. All you need to stop comparing yourselves to other countries. They have their laws and policy so do you. The police was wrong focus on that, deal with the matter and stop putting yourselves with other countries.

  9. This is what happens to you when you’re not connected. Otherwise you can lick down students with your vehicle and continue go on your way.

  10. despite of the situation officers need to learn to handle people properly… i bet the man only reacted because of the way he handled. I am not an officer but I know that there is always a better way.

  11. You see why i dont like these dirty police officers thy are a set of liears and thief thy worst than who commit crime

  12. You mean to tell me the police aren’t the ones being charged but that old man? I did not see the man beating the police. Where the battery charge coming in now? Anyway anyway…black people need to stand up against these dirty cops

  13. Police Cruelty. And old man you treating like this? How you behave to see another officer do your father or grandfather like this? I know he could be heard asking the officer what are the charges. They never answered. But now six charges against him? Hmmmmm. Corrupt system

  14. This old man did not deserve this. But however it’s the Royal Police Force of Antigua. It’s anything another police say

  15. Well well, as I said before, Antigua Police are all liars. To my knowledge, the man in plain clothes did not identify himself as an officer. Don’t you expect the old man to run? Why should this old man be facing 6 different charges. What can 82 year old do a young police? These officers pick and choose who they wanna rough up but they better make sure they a brain in picking and choosing…. Because – YES MOMMY. Antigua Surf over and out

  16. Wicked and evil police. Is so them horrible, I don’t know how women lie down with these beast. Is a bunch of women beaters , theif, murderers, liars, and despicable humans.
I can’t believe the higher-ups allowed these charges against the old man when they saw that video. Shame, shame shame on all off them.
Where is the police integrity commission??

  17. These PIGS again, before they do their dyam work they pinking now on the elderly.
Imagine just a few days ago a police officer in uniform in a private vehicle pulled alongside my vehicle slowly because I was parked close to a corner but enough space was their for a vehicle to pass, I explained to him the reason for me parked there temporary. He driving and on his cell phone and annoyed at me for parking temporary near the corner. Police need to know also they are not above the law, the law did not exempt them. Somebody will ruff up these police if they don’t act the way they ought to, they are humans too, we all bleed, we all are under the laws of the land.
