The president of the Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers (A&BUT) is among a number of educators within the public school system who have been appointed to new positions for the 2017-2018 academic year.
Ashworth Azille now heads the faculty and students of the Clare Hall Secondary School, replacing former principal E Jonah Greene, who is now serving as acting education officer in charge of secondary schools within the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
Other educators who are now serving in new posts include Listine Bradshaw, the newly appointed principal of the Sir Novelle Richards Academy. Bradshaw was the former deputy principal at Clare Hall Secondary.
Lisa Jacobs-Manderville has been transferred from All Saints Secondary School where she served as deputy principal to serve in the same capacity at Clare Hall Secondary. Former Principal of the Pigotts Primary School, Theoline Croft, now heads the Antigua Girls’ High School.
Director of Education Clare Browne said Shara Quinn, a member of Pigotts Primary School’s management team, will act in the position until a decision is made regarding the appointment of a new principal.
Browne noted that the ministry stands ready to provide support to these educators in order for them to perform at their optimum.
“Effective schools are as a result of effective leadership, and so we look to these school leaders to convert the level of student outcomes in the various schools,” Mr. Browne said.
“The ministry of education,” he says, “stands ready to offer professional development whether through workshops, study tours and courses these principals may see online. In order for persons to be good at their craft, they must always avail themselves for professional development.”
These promotions were sanctioned by the Public Service Commission (PSC), and the appointees will act in their position until confirmation is given by the commission.
