
Even though Covid-19 expected to peak in the summer according to the WHO, not even that will stop the carnival as officials here say Vincy Mas will go ahead as planned.
St Vincent and the Grenadines will hold its annual carnival celebration from Fri, Jun 26, 2020 – Tue, Jul 7, 2020.
Head of CDC Ricardo Adams said that unless they are advised otherwise, Vincy Mas 2020 will go ahead as scheduled.
Adams noted that officials have not placed any ban on large gatherings, so CDC will continue to push ahead with the nation premier festival.
Among the measures under consideration by the government of St Vincent and the grenadines is social distancing and large gatherings.
Covid-19 is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person according to the Center for Disease Control.
- Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
- Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.
Caribbean countries who have already postponed their festivals include the Bahamas, Jamaica and St Marteen.
“The Government of St. Maarten has decided to postpone Carnival 2020 in response to the rapid spreading of the COVID-19 Pandemic”.
“Chairman of the Carnival in Jamaica stakeholders committee, Kamal Bankay, announced the postponement of the annual event following consultations with the various stakeholders as Caribbean countries continue to react to the global spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) that has so far killed more than 4 000 people”.
“Bahamas Carnival has been postponed due to safety concerns over the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Organizers released a press statement announcing the road march and related events have been sidelined after the country recorded its first confirmed case on Sunday”.
There has been one confirmed case of coronavirus in St Vincent to date.
