ST. MAARTEN Cruise ship passengers injured in St. Maarten crash

Passengers on a Royal  Caribbean cruise ship were injured during an accident here on Saturday.

Royal Caribbean, in a statement, said the ship – Freedom of the Seas, was docked in  Philipsburg when the incident occurred. 

The police report that a minivan, with the visitors on board, ended up in the water while doing a manoeuvre at the seafront.

The number of injured is not known, however,  there were no fatalities.

Royal Caribbean,   said it is not clear if the cruise passengers were on a shore excursion at the time or just using general transportation. 

The police, in their report, said that three local youngsters were involved in rescuing those in the vehicle before emergency services arrived. 

The boys have been called heroes of the day  

Freedom of the Seas is scheduled to arrive at its homeport in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Sunday, after completing a week-long southern Caribbean cruise

Port of calls included Aruba, Curacao, Bonaire and then finally Philipsburg.
