The 2nd October 2018 marks the 175th Anniversary of the founding of St. John’s Lodge No. 492 ER and on Sunday 30th September last a large number of Freemasons gathered at the Cathedral of St. John The Divine to commence the year long celebration under the theme “Proclaiming the Good of Freemasonry”.

The celebrations were led by District Grand Master Designate, Worshipful Brother Clement E. M. Bird who gave a brief history of the Lodge to an attentive Church. He welcomed as well members of the other local lodges – under the English Constitution, Caribbee Lodge No. 2829 and Waladli Lodge No. 9887, as well as St. Michael’s Lodge No. 19 of the Prince Hall Constitution who had joined in the celebrations.

His message sought to demystify Freemasonry as a whole while stressing its key objects of brotherly love, charity and honour. Church-goers and passers-by were treated to the unfamiliar sight of more than 50 Freemasons in full regalia parading along Church and Newgate Streets to attend the Service of Thanksgiving. Church was followed by a celebratory Brunch at the Lodge Building at St. John’s Street. On Saturday 5th October, 2018 the lodge will host a Cocktail reception at the Cortsland Hotel. The highlight of the evening will be to raise funds through a number of auctions. The funds so raised will be presented to a designated charitable purpose.

The members of the lodge will be joined by family, well-wishers, widows of the Lodge and specially invited guests. The Lodge will also during the first quarter of its year-long celebrations, publish its 175th Commemorative Magazine expected to be ready for distribution during the month of December 2018.

  1. Talk about coming out of the shadows…… these are really the last days when evil is looked upon as good and wrong is right… the earth is truly on the final cycle…. Jesus

    • These men are good men what evil are u talking about glad that we know our lodge members not different that jacess, lions club, powa or any group …….might have a couple of wendies inside but it is all good persons

    • We live in an “open” society. No need to “hide” anymore. If the lgbtqxyz can be “out and proud” then I guess Obeah men will soon appear on state media promoting their cause.

      • Obeah is African religion NOT evil as the Christian church has besmirched its name for ever. We must not let the white man tell us our African traditions are evil.

  2. Ask the Catholic Church WHY their members cannot be Masons? Many of the Christian churches have the same viewpoint. Why?

  3. I understand that amongst the lot the one in the middle barks like a real dog at the commencement at the meetings. So much so female dogs in heat tend to wonder around until the meeting done only to walk away with their tail between their leg. Hopefully though that would have cooled the heat!!!

  4. What sort of sermon any so called men of the cloth could give to these people to commemorate this?

  5. Sted the Mason.
Fraternal greetings from Gt Britain. The comment that churches forbid membership of Freemasonry is not applicable to church members, or even clergy. Those old days of old ways are well behind us. We have many of the C of E clergy or free church ministers who are openly Freemasons without prejudice. In Britain we have shed the old cloak of secrecy and talk openly of our masonic membership. So many citizens are interested to hear there never was an all embracing masonic ‘secret’ the media and book sellers insisted on being disingenuous about.
