St. George MP Algernon ‘Serpent’ Watts Defends Controversial Gesture: Calls for Public Judgment in Live Video

REAL NEWS: St. George Member of Parliament Algernon “Serpent” Watts has invited the public to judge his actions through a live Facebook video, which his followers claim has been taken out of context by the Antigua Labour Party (ALP) and its supporters.

Within ALP circles, allegations have emerged that during his video broadcast, the MP made an offensive gesture known as “flipping the bird,” leading critics to label him as disrespectful.

However, on Thursday, Watts reviewed the video footage to highlight a nearly three-minute-long segment that revealed the context in which he raised his middle finger. During that time, Watts was addressing comments made about him by ALP candidate Samantha Marshall.

He used three fingers to symbolize three individuals: his pinky represented Marshall, the fourth finger represented Kelvin “Shugy” Simon, the United Progressive Party candidate for St. Mary’s South, and the middle finger represented Watts himself.

In his narrative, Watts urged Marshall to focus her attention on St. Mary’s South and her political rival, Simon, rather than trying to engage with him. Marshall reportedly denies that her comments were directed at Watts, but his supporters remain unconvinced.

After watching the video, one woman responded by saying, “To the pure, all things are pure… He showed three fingers, representing three S’s.” Meanwhile, the St. George MP argues that the ongoing work at the Cades Bay Pineapple Farm should have been initiated nine years ago, rather than on the eve of a by-election.

  1. The PIG is now coming home to roast. In the SACRED walls of our parliament Serpant & several should have no place there. A leopard will never change its spots & putting a hog in a palace will always remain a hog.

  2. This the value of a free and accessible press. What if Serpent didn’t have access to media to clarify his actions or it wasn’t reported? Even I, who am no fan of Marshall, would have bought at least part of her story. Good work ANR

  3. It’s a middle finger .. what’s the big deal!?!? Jesus Antigua is so backwards … Antigua act like they have hi standards for their politicians and people in public office.

90 % of politicians and people in public office are not married and if they are married they have children outside their marriage and woman and they don’t hide it .. some of y’all politicians are murderers. Matthews tief how much land and y’all worried about a middle finger .. like y’all 10 years old in primary school … chupppsss .. look at the bigger picture … LETS TALK ABOUT ALL THESE AFRICANS BEING TRAFFICKED!!! LETS TALK ABOUT CRIME RATE IN ANTIGUA … LETS TALK ABOUT NO WATER !!! NO GARAGE COLLECTION … Not no middle finger ..

  4. These are the decietful ways in which corrupt politicians and their minions can fool their followers and gaslight the residents; edit video footage from social media and claim it to be something that it isn’t — Then they have the nerve to talk about who is or isn’t “HONOURABLE.” If they are willing to lie about a simple thing to win a seat, why should anyone trust them to tell the truth about anything. If they were honourable, they would reject and admonished anyone who’s fabricating content for the sole purpose of increasing their chances of winning — Anything else make them look desperate, weak and afraid of losing the race.

  5. I watched Serpents live . He did not flip her the birdie. Three fingers were used in coun
    ting ,samantha shuggy and Serpent.

  6. Serpant and a few others on the UPP has no right in our parliament….. May good Lord have mercy on children when they hear about them

    • Ooh, so the parliament belongs to the ALP and its minions only — The will of the people of ANU doesn’t count, @Bluddy Bloke? Is it a dic[k]tatorship that the ALP is ultimately seeking to turn Antigua into?
Folks, pay close attention to their rhetoric — don’t dismiss their words as idle talk — they have no qualms in revealing their real intentions.

    • @BLOKE:Gaston Browne and his gang of old farts/merry men.Do they have the rights to be in Parliament?
Only ABLP politicians have all of the rights to be in Parliament. Antigua and all things Antigua were willed to them by Papa Bird. What qualifications one needs to be in Parliament? Put your name into the political sphere. Have a non criminal record and be an Adult and a Citizen. The people Voted for you and win the Constituency.

  7. I know we not coming for Serpent alone!!

How quickly we forget! Hold Dutty mouth Gaston Browne to the same standard as well.

I don’t want to believe there is a double standard (oh, but there is) when it comes to the people we ELECT to serve US/ the people of Antigua and Barbuda.

We deserve better from our representatives.. every one of them and should be called out when they fall below our expectations.

The disrespect from THEM should not be tolerated, when they want to act like dutty-mouth hooligans, take off their clothes in public, come on air, and cuss anyone who calls them out on. We should demand better from them.

They sit with other nations’ leaders and act like a lamb to the slater. Kiss their asses, bow before kings and queens, but talk to us like we are beneath them! Why!!! WE THE PEOPLE WHO ELECT YOU!

Until we understand the POWER we hold in our hands, we will forever be treated and spoken to like a clueless fool!
