Its very commendable that our athletes are doing the nation proud at the Carifta games in Grenada. But wouldn’t it be also commendable if our athletes could perform in the Carifta games right here at home in their own backyard.
Apparently we don’t have a facility here capable of hosting Carifta games, similar to what Grenada has.
Alot of money is currently been spent in the country as the country gears itself for a general election. Some of that money could have used to upgrade Yasco to a modern facility to host Carifta games in Antigua.
Full time – yes it’s commendable and they have made us proud. We spend or I should say waste money on so many things except where it should matter. Look how many years it took our governments to provide a simple toilets facilities. We had the US athlete Ria Benjamin bringing world class athletes and coach and they did not have toilet much less to an athletic stadium that can host Carifta. We prefer to invest in the growing of Marijuana, that is destroying our children than investing in their future.
We wasted millions to win the St. Phillip seat, then called the general election before the winner Randy Baltimore was seated properly. Same thing happened in St. Mary’s by election. Right now millions are spent in cleaning lands and building roads just as election ploy.
So I honestly do not think our nation is concerned about our youth.
The parents of the Young Lady Fenton better had take note. Mr. Fenton you have a gem in your daughter bringing home 2 gold and a bronze- which she could have easily bring home won easily if she did not go out so hard in the 400m. She was not mentioned I this article. Think she did not win the 200m when the minister was singing praises. In fact during the last evening the she was mentioned as a front runner for the 26th Carifta MVP.
Congratulations to our athletes. Field events, love it. The best place to be when trying to go far, let’s get more involvement and focus on the field events aspect, by our young athletes.
Yasco, and it’s surrounding can’t host Carifta, plus if you gonna spend money on development you can’t just look on Carifta, you have to look on attracting larger track and field events, like hosting the world relays etc. For this you would need a real stadium, along with parking and upgraded technology.
This will eventually come, after we claim an Olympic or World goal medal winner, like Grenada Kirani James.
