Soniya Jones to represent Antigua at World Indoor Championships in Poland

The Antigua and Barbuda Athletics Association (ABAA) has announced a one-member team to represent the country at the World Indoor Track and Field Championships in Toruń, Poland, scheduled for March 20–22, 2026.

Sprinter Soniya Jones will compete in the women’s 60 metres. Jones, who is affiliated with Western Michigan University, will be accompanied by coach Evans Jawakie Jones.

According to the association, the team departs Antigua and Miami on March 18 and is expected to return on March 24.

The ABAA extended best wishes to the athlete and her coach, expressing confidence in their performance and wishing them a safe journey to Poland.

  2. I just posted a question the other day about, Antigua having no athletes heading to the In Door Worlds Championship, but I guess I was wrong. I see we find one, hope she at least gives it her all and gets out the heats. Don’t no much about her times since I yet to see her compete on the college circuit, or even professionally, so to just be thrown in the ring with the top and fastest track and field athletes in the world, makes no sense to me, but as a coach and father, Jawaki should have been updated with the personal times, and with these times in hand, be able to tell if this trip is worth it. Unless it’s one of those trip where a country is granted a free trip to one athlete to compete and Jawaki said why not. Good luck Ms Jones, give it your all and if you can make it out your heats, that alone is a success.
    By the way I notice we attached a number of our Carifta athletes names to relays, hope we have them practicing, and training together.
