A member of the ABDF while donating blood, was tested for the Coronavirus using one of the available rapid testing kits at a local lab. In so doing, the results suggested that he might be positive for COVID 19.
In accordance with ABDF guidelines for responding to such situation, the soldier presented himself to the Force Medical Corps personnel. The protocol of testing, using the approved PCR Test method, and quarantine were immediately activated. ABDF Headquarters has been advised that the results of the soldier’s test will be made available within 48 – 72 hours.
In accordance with our established procedures, members of the forces Construction and Engineering Department to which the soldier belong, have been placed in quarantine until such time as the aforementioned PCR test has been received. In addition, the ABDF continues its regimen of temperature testing, approved hygiene practices, monitoring by the force’s medical personnel, and in this particular case, an internal system of tracing to discover any contact that may have occurred in recent times by those persons presently being quarantined.
The public can be assured that the ABDF is following all best practices with the management of COVID 19 and such related illnesses. In addition, procedures have been put in place to ensure that the ABDF will continue to provide services to the people of Antigua and Barbuda in a seamless and uninterrupted manner.
