Snake spotted in tree at Horsford Hill

14

A resident of Horsford Hill found a snake in a tree in his yard.

The serpent, which wrapped itself around branches in the tree, is believed to be a Boa Constrictor.

Over the weekend, pictures emerged of a snake that was reportedly seen crossing a road near Turtle Bay.

According to sources, the snake has already been secured and does not pose a threat to residents.

The introduction of mongooses on sugar plantations rid the island of snakes many years ago.

Racer snakes are however slowly being reintroduced to some offshore islands which have been cleared of their predators.

Only the extremely rare Antiguan racer snake which is now practically extinct is known to exist on island.

      • Why would you want to kill them why be so barbaric? I think a zoo would be best to open and put them in so people can get to see them and learn more about them instead of killing the animals just like the poor monkeys the caemon/alligator and the other snakes the police killed a few years ago in point in the bucket of a backhoe they could have made a ton of money from them if they had a zoo where people could pay to come see these exotic creatures.

  1. That’s like walking in the bush in Dominica. Lol
Nothing wrong with snakes, they just add to the natural appeal. Let them breed!!!!

    • We don’t need no damn invasive snake breeding here… Do you know how rapidly their population explode .. especially where they have no natural predators? We need to tighten up our borders..

    • While dominica has space to allow snakes to thrive antigua is to small for boa constrictors they need to get rid of them all y’all take everything for a joke but don’t do that in antigua please …boas swallow anything according to their size they are not to play with and y’all need to re introduce some mongooses else snakes will take over the island very quickly

  2. This is a frightening thing and I am worried that just like the giant African snails, this might be the start of many more sightings around Antigua. I know that way back when, the mongoose was introduced into Antigua to get rid of snakes but the mongoose now seem to be a scarce commodity and a good friend of mine was trying to convince me that they (the mongeese) were all consumed by the growing Chinese population.

  3. Who brought dat demon snake in here? Is it from Guyana, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Haiti, or ???? Bring in more mongoose. And please STOP eating our mongoose. What next.

    • Guyanese eat mongoose. They call it “wild meat”
Check your GT neighbour to see if they have any in their Guyanese pepperpot.

      • They are rats, and that’s sick. Eat the damn snake instead, like they do in fancy high end restaurants in the USA.

  4. They say the snake may come in by the sand boat that’s coming from Guyana 🇬🇾. Or it could be some one’s pet any who get it out of Antigua.

  5. What I hear so far that they came in by the sand boat that is coming from Guyana 🇬🇾. Or it is some one’s pet.
